The 1st highlights. Let Light lead the way!
“It is the task of the iconographer to open our eyes to the actual presence of the Kingdom in the world and to remind us that though we see nothing of its splendid liturgy, we are, if we believe in Christ the Redeemer, in fact living and worshipping as fellow citizens of the angels and saints, built upon the chief cornerstone with Christ.” Thomas Merton
Through sacred imagery, the Holy Spirit speaks to us, revealing truths that may not be evident to those using only the tools of reason. The icon is a work of tradition. It is theology written in images and color.
I realize icons may not speak to all who look upon them, yet for those who are drawn to them, we get pulled into the image that speaks to our soul. It is hard to put into words the emotion that fills my heart and soul when I gaze at an icon. It is a calling to prayer. W.H. Auden states, "To pray is to pay attention to something or someone other than oneself. whenever a man so concentrates his attention.....that he forgets his own ego and desires, he is praying." It amazes me not everyone feels the desire to be still and pray. It is an instant release from the chaos of life, it is where I find peace. 🙏❤
