👋 hey!

I’m creating something here for everyone who carries pain and shame and just wants a place to put it because it’s heavy to carry alone. Because you know there is SO MUCH lightness and love and joy in you too. But you feel it is covered and buried beneath the heavy.

I am creating a community to be with is here. With what is real. And to be together in it.

Whether you’re going through divorce, loss, career change, grief, addictive behaviors (drinking, drugs, binge eating, shopping, s*x) numbing out… whatever.

The shame finds a home here- in the light 💡 of our collective loving hearts.

So we can shine our lights 💡 into the world.

Why me? I went through big loss and fear at a young age. Mom died. Dad remarried. (Yay new mom for me!). Dad divorced. Dad moved away and dropped me at loving but practical strangers’ home to live (gratitude to that tremendous family).

I was alone. I survived. Not without so much sadness, shame, anxiety.

The only tools that are helping in my adult life as I unpack the baggage and live a life that is mine, where decisions are made with love and not fear?

Seeing what is here. Being kind to it. Talking about it with non-judging others. Believing in myself. Finding others who believe in me.

In other words? Mindfulness meditation, therapy, community.

Mindful, honest, community is what I am building. Who says group like AA need to only exist for folks dealing with alcohol addiction? My opinion? We all need the support, the community, the places to be real.

Follow along on my journey as I build!

PS You’re gonna see me showing up like this a lot. Morning hair. No makeup. Pajama shirt.

My kind and creative thoughts come in these morning hours when my son is at daycare and the house is mind and I have not yet started my work day.

Love 💕
Gaby

My life at 38!

Pursuing for real the starting of a female owned business dedicated to serving others in their relationship with food and with themselves. Healing that starts with food but finishes with the stars ✨

Taking clients on Nourish starting next week who want to find more peace and ease of body and mind when it comes to eating. Pediatric and adult clients.

Finishing up my meditation teacher training and facilitating two meditation communities- one at work and one in my synagogue 🕍

Being a mom to a wild and loving little almost-3-year-old boy.

Commuting 🚗 2.5 hrs per day, twice a week into my day-job and doing the good work of helping patients in the kitchen, building community and celebrating food an culture.

And most of all- ready to live courageously, as me, and give what I’ve got and live fully. Realizing the self doubt is really just a story. I’ll laugh and I’ll cry at it but I will keep going. Ready to share the metamorphosis here.

The antidote to self-doubt? Remember your goodness. Remember your beautiful intentions. Remember, the doubt is just a story the mind tells you- not the truth.

Xo 🍕💕🙏🏻🌊

💜 Dolly Parton I love you and thank you for inspiring me with your larger than life ability to cultivate joy and friendships and playfulness AND have the drive to pursue your vision.

Reminder to all those like me, for whom suffering can come more naturally than joy- and we come by this honestly- we can actually cultivate joy. Whatever that looks like for each one of us. Let’s let Dolly be an inspiration.

Today let’s do one thing just for the joy and fun of it.

My motivation for building Home Inside is to build communities where we can all just be exactly who we are. Spaces where we practice building belonging, internally, and belonging to one another. This is because I didn’t feel like I belonged from the age of 12 and onward in my teens and young adulthood. Sangha, or meditation community, was a relief. I didn’t have to be alone in my sadness. I didn’t have to hide it. And only in allowing for it was I able to feel true joy.

Hello! I am Gaby, and I created Home Inside to help you find a sense of home within yourself, just as you are.

This is counter-cultural, and we can’t do it alone. So I decided to build a platform and community centered around accepting ourselves and coming home to ourselves just as we are. No fixing. No self-improving, just kind witnessing and accepting.

I will share teachings and practices from millennia of Buddhist tradition as well as my lived experience. I consider my teachers to be Tara Brach, Jack Kornfield, Thich Nhat Hanh and their teaches who came before them.

Our teachers are also our own life experiences. Our body and experience is our research.

Home Inside is here to support your practice of being a kind witness to your inner world, and outer circumstances.

Welcome!

You’re doing it right!

Julia Child apparently said that so many people walk into a department store and buy unnecessary kitchen gadgets when they only went in for men’s underwear.

We are easily distracted by all the shiny things and all the self-critical thoughts and all the to-do lists and planning and regretting and comparing. We are human.

There is nothing to do in meditation but be a kind witness.

If you cannot focus easily, if you have ADHD , if you have big emotions- you are human and you are ok. It’s ok.

If you’d like, you can still meditate.

You do so by bringing you attention to an anchor. Like the breath or like the feet on the ground or like sound.

*your attention will not stay there. It will wander. And you get to bear witness to the wandering. And invite your attention back again and again. *

Even if you have a million channels going or mental tabs open, you’re doing it right.

I’ve been so busy lately that eating has been a bit of an afterthought. I eat so rushed I feel I don’t get enough food or don’t chew it enough to get the digestive process started well.

I’m reminding myself and anyone else who this helps to chew thoroughly and practice actually feeling grateful for my food.

Call it prayer. Call it mindfulness. Call it gratitude.

It’s connecting to the life force. It’s slowing down. It’s cultivating positive feelings.

Amen.

Recipe is in last post- plus I cracked two eggs on top, covered the pan and cooked over low heat for 5 minutes to cook eggs .

Lebanese Cabbage with Mint and Pumpkin Seeds

Serves 2-3
2 teaspoon EVOO
1 leek
1/4 onion
1/4 green cabbage
1 teaspoon Lebanese 7 Spice (optional)
1/2 teaspoon salt
7 ish mint leaves
1/4 cup pumpkin seeds (pepitas)

Cut away the dark green park of the leek and discard everything but the white and light green (or save for stalk). Slice leek and wash in a bowl of water to remove sand or dirt hiding in the leek layers.

Slice the cabbage and wash in that same bowl of water.

Mince onion.

Heat oil in a skillet. Add onion and leak and sauté over medium heat for about 5 minutes until onions are translucent. Turn down heat if leaks are burning.

Add cabbage, salt and Lebanese 7 Spice if using. Sauté for about 5-7 minutes to soften cabbage. I like yo leave some crunch.

Rinse mint leaves, chop and add in at the very end. Turn off heat. Top with pepitas (pumpkin seeds) and serve.

Great with a fried egg on top, mixed with a bowl of farro or brown rice and tofu, or as a side to chicken or fish. Enjoy!

Feel free to “save” this recipe to make later!
