Advocacy Network on Disabilities Since 1972, Miami-Dade County's lead agency to plan, provide, and coordinate services to individuals. Working for a world where we all belong

About the Advocacy Network with Disabilities

THE ADVOCACY NETWORK ON DISABILITIES champions the rights of individuals with intellectual, developmental, and other disabilities by promoting inclusion, providing services, and advancing systems change. Long before “collaboration” and “partnering” were buzz words, these principles were the foundation upon which The Advocacy Network on Disabilities was founded. Since its beginnings as a subcommittee of South Florida's Health Planning Council in the early 1970s, The Advocacy Network on Disabilities has been a coalition of individuals with disabilities; family members; advocates; community service providers; and other public, private and governmental organizations. With an original focus on individuals with developmental disabilities, today the organization also provides supports and services to individuals with physical, sensory and other disabilities. Our mission is simple: “In partnership with people with disabilities and their families, The Advocacy Network on Disabilities advocates, coordinates and provides supports and services.”

Through facilitating community collaboration, fostering self-advocacy, and promoting acceptance, The Advocacy Network on Disabilities goals include:

1) Helping individuals identify and access supports and services;

2) Bringing unmet needs to the attention of decision-makers and advocating for change;

3) Providing expertise about best practices and specialized resources; and

4) Conducting outreach, education, and professional development activities. The Advocacy Network on Disabilities has a proven track record of excellence. Since 1975, its funders have continuously found the organization in compliance with both programmatic and administrative contract requirements. Consumer Satisfaction Surveys indicate that 96% of respondents are satisfied with the help they receive from us.

Today is World Mental Health Day. 💙💚

Mental health affects how we think, feel, work, and connect with others. Anyone can struggle, and no one should have to face it alone.

Asking for help is a normal part of taking care of yourself. Check in on the people around you, listen without judgment, and make it easier for others to reach out.

If you or someone you know is struggling, call or text 988 to reach the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline, available 24/7 in the U.S.

Today is World Cerebral Palsy Day! 💙💚
Today, we celebrate people with cerebral palsy and the many ways they contribute to our families, workplaces, schools, and communities.
Inclusion means ensuring people with cerebral palsy have access, opportunity, choice, and the support they need to participate fully in community life.
Together, we can continue breaking down barriers and building a world where every person belongs.

ADHD can affect people of all ages and can influence attention, organization, communication, learning, work, and daily life.
This month is an opportunity to increase understanding, challenge misconceptions, and recognize that people with ADHD have different strengths, needs, and ways of experiencing the world.
With understanding, appropriate supports, and inclusive environments, people with ADHD can thrive at school, at work, and in their communities.
Let’s continue building communities where every person has the support and opportunity to succeed.

October is Down Syndrome Awareness Month! 💙💚
This month, we celebrate people with Down syndrome and the talents, perspectives, and contributions they bring to our families, workplaces, schools, and communities.
True inclusion means more than being welcomed. It means having opportunities to learn, work, build relationships, make choices, and fully participate in community life.
Together, we can continue building a world where people with Down syndrome are valued, included, and empowered to live the lives they choose.

October is National Disability Employment Awareness Month! 💙💚

This year’s theme, “Celebrating Value and Talent,” reminds us that people with disabilities bring skills, ideas, experience, and talent to workplaces across our communities.

Employment is more than a paycheck. It can mean independence, opportunity, purpose, and the chance to contribute and grow.

This month, we celebrate workers with disabilities and encourage employers to continue building workplaces where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.

Because inclusion belongs everywhere — including the workplace.

🗳️ Voting should be accessible to everyone.
On September 28, we recognize the anniversary of the Voting Accessibility for the Elderly and Handicapped Act of 1984, an important step toward ensuring people with disabilities can access polling places and participate fully in our democracy.
More than 40 years later, accessible voting remains a civil right—and an essential part of an inclusive community.
