🟢 MONDAY MOVEMENT MINUTE: What Actually Causes “Tech Neck”?

Phones. Computers. Tablets. We spend a LOT of time looking at screens.

But is looking down at your phone actually ruining your neck?

Not necessarily.

Neck discomfort is often more complicated than one “bad” posture. Spending long periods in the same position, decreased mobility, muscle fatigue, stress, and your individual movement patterns can all play a role.

Instead of obsessing over sitting perfectly straight all day, try changing positions frequently and taking regular movement breaks.

If neck pain, headaches, stiffness, or discomfort keeps returning, physical therapy can help identify what may be contributing to it and develop a treatment plan specific to you.

Your phone might not be the villain — but your neck probably wouldn’t mind a movement break. 😉

💙 Meet Kristi! 🤍

Next up in our Meet Midland PT series is Kristi Turner, PT, MSPT!

Kristi earned her Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Des Moines University in 1998, after completing her undergraduate degree in Kinesiology and Exercise Science at Michigan State University in 1994.

And here’s a fun piece of Kristi history — while at MSU, she was a four-year starter on the women’s soccer team! ⚽ That background in athletics, combined with her extensive experience as a physical therapist, has helped shape the way Kristi approaches patient care today.

Kristi believes in treating every patient as an individual, tailoring treatment to their specific needs and goals, and helping them achieve their highest level of function.

Outside of Midland PT, Kristi is an amazing dog mama, loves to fish, and enjoys cooking!

We’re so fortunate to have Kristi’s experience, knowledge, and dedication to her patients as part of the Midland PT team! 💙🤍

🟢 MONDAY MOVEMENT MINUTE: Why Does My Back Keep Hurting?

Back pain gets better… then comes right back. Sound familiar?

Recurring back pain doesn’t always mean something is “damaged.” Sometimes the problem is a combination of things like decreased mobility, muscle weakness, movement habits, repetitive positions, or simply the way your body is handling the demands you put on it every day.

That’s where physical therapy can help.

Instead of only focusing on where it hurts, a physical therapist can look at how you move, identify factors that may be contributing to your symptoms, and build a treatment plan specific to you.

At Midland Physical Therapy, treatment may include hands-on manual therapy, targeted exercises, mobility work, and strategies to help you move and feel better — with the goal of getting you back to the things you want to do.

If your back pain keeps making a comeback, it might be time to find out what’s contributing to it.

💙 Meet Sheila! 🤍

We’re kicking off our Meet Midland PT series with the person who started it all — our owner and founder, Sheila Isles-Truax!

Sheila founded Midland Physical Therapy in 1995 with a vision of creating a practice centered around personalized, hands-on care and treating the source of the problem — a philosophy that still guides our clinic today.

Before stepping away from patient care, Sheila spent decades as a highly accomplished physical therapist. She graduated from Oakland University in 1990, completed advanced training in Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy, became a Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy, and was recognized by the Michigan Physical Therapy Association with its Outstanding Clinical Instructor Award in 2004.

Today, Sheila pours that same passion into leading Midland PT and supporting the people who work here. She’s the kind of owner who truly cares about her employees, her patients, and the clinic she has spent more than 30 years building — and we’re incredibly fortunate to have her at the helm. 💙🤍

Outside of Midland PT, Sheila loves to travel and spend time with her two grandchildren, who have given her perhaps her most important title of all: “SheShe.” 🥰

We’re excited to introduce you to the rest of the Midland PT family in the weeks ahead!

We had such a great time representing Midland Physical Therapy at Northwood University’s Timber Takeover tonight! 💙

It was so much fun welcoming incoming freshmen to the Midland community and introducing them to some of the amazing local businesses and resources they’ll have right here in the area while they’re away at school.

We loved getting to meet so many new Timberwolves and share a little bit about who we are and what we do at Midland PT!

Wishing all of Northwood’s students an amazing school year ahead. Good luck, Timberwolves! 🎓💙

We are so excited that Farrah officially begins seeing massage therapy clients this Friday, June 19!

We wanted to give you a sneak peek of our newly renovated massage therapy room and share a little more about the amazing therapist joining our team.

As you can see in the photos, Farrah has helped make this space warm, welcoming, and uniquely her own. One of the most unique features in Farrah’s new massage therapy room is her collection of military patches. These patches were gifted to her by pilots she worked on throughout her career and hold special meaning. Combined with her service as an Army veteran, they reflect a life dedicated to caring for and serving others.

Farrah brings a wealth of experience to Midland Physical Therapy, having worked with military personnel, everyday individuals, and even Olympic-level athletes. She is also certified in Graston Technique®, a specialized treatment that uses stainless steel instruments to help address scar tissue, muscle tightness, and movement restrictions.

✨ New massage therapy clients receive 10% off their first visit!

We are honored to have Farrah on our team and can’t wait for you to meet her. If you’ve been thinking about scheduling, now is the time as her appointments are filling quickly!

Call us today at 989-832-6485 to reserve your spot. 😊 Gift cards are also available for purchase over the phone or in office!
