To the ones who still feel

To the ones with ears to hear and hearts brave enough to sit with what's uncomfortable. To the ones who ain't checked out, who ain't numbed out, who still believe something's worth saving.

I see you. We see you.

This ain't about blame. This ain't about pointing fingers left or right, up or down. This is about a mirror. And what we do when we finally look into it.

Here's the truth they don't want you to sit with: We are the people. Not them. Not Washington. Not the talking heads on the screen. Us. The ones who clock in, raise children, pay bills, pray in our own ways, and wonder every single morning if tomorrow's gonna be different.

It can be different. But not if we keep handing over our power like it's somebody else's job to fix.

The game being played? It's not the end. It's the signal. A blaring, horn-blasting, can't-ignore-it-anymore signal that says: Wake up. The wheel keeps turning and we're the ones running on it.

So the question ain't complicated. It's just heavy:

Are you willing to do the work?

Not the comfortable work. Not the "post a status and feel good" work. The real work. The kind that starts in your own block, your own kitchen, your own mirror. The kind that says: I'm gonna see my neighbor, really see 'em and remember they're human too.

We don't need perfect people. We need present people. Willing to listen. Willing to learn. Willing to put down the dividers long enough to remember we all bleed the same.

This is our moment. Not to fight each other but to fight for each other.

I'm asking you to believe. Not in politicians. Not in systems. In us.

Because if we can't believe in one another, what the hell we got left?

Thank you for reading. Thank you for staying awake. Thank you for even asking the question.

Now let's get to work.

With respect, urgency, and love,

A concerned citizen, just like you.

Your Data, Your Price: What the FTC Just Uncovered

A Consumer Warning

The Federal Trade Commission just dropped a bombshell: retailers are using your personal data down to your mouse movements to set individualized prices just for you.

What the FTC Found

After investigating major intermediaries like Mastercard, Accenture, and McKinsey, the FTC confirmed that at least 250 retailers are using surveillance pricing. They're tracking:

Your precise location
Your browsing history
Your demographics
What you leave in your online shopping cart
Even how you move your mouse on a webpage
How It Works

Imagine searching for a baby thermometer. If an algorithm profiles you as a new parent, it may intentionally show you higher-priced options first. A cosmetics company might offer promotions based on your skin type. The same product can have a different price for different people, based entirely on who the algorithm thinks you are.

Why This Matters

This isn't dynamic pricing like airline tickets. This is surveillance pricing using your private information to charge you more simply because the system believes you'll pay it.

The FTC Chair Lina Khan stated: "Americans deserve to know how their private data is being used to set the prices they pay."

Your Warning

You are being tracked, often without explicit consent
Prices are no longer static your neighbor may pay less for the same item
This is widespread, spanning grocery stores to apparel retailers
What You Can Do

Clear your browser cookies regularly
Use privacy-focused browsers or VPNs
Be cautious with loyalty programs, they feed the algorithm
Compare prices across devices and locations
Demand transparency, ask retailers if they use personalized pricing
The FTC is now seeking public comments. Your voice matters. This isn't about convenience, it's about fairness. And right now, the system is rigged against you.

The Jason Arday story is much bigger than one accusation of plagiarism. It forces us to confront a much harder question: Who gets to make a mistake and move on, and who gets turned into a referendum on their entire race?

Mona Chalabi’s graphics (attached) remind us that prominent academics have faced accusations of plagiarism. Yet the consequences have not always been distributed equally. And anyone who has spent time in academia knows the inequity begins long before tenure and promotion.

Black and Asian students report being accused of academic misconduct at higher rates than their peers. Black students are also more likely than white students to report that a teacher incorrectly flagged their work as AI-generated. That matters because bias can show up as suspicion. And once suspicion attaches itself to someone, it can become remarkably difficult to shake.
It makes me wonder:

Who looks like they belong in the room?

Who looks like they are worthy of success?

Whose intelligence gets assumed, and whose has to be proven …again and again and again?

Whose mistake is allowed to remain a mistake, and whose becomes evidence of something larger about their entire race?

Who gets to outlive an accusation?

I want to be clear that any accusation involving Jason Arday deserved scrutiny, accountability, and a fair and proportionate response. But he also deserved the same grace we routinely extend to others: the ability to make a mistake without having that mistake become confirmation of every negative assumption academia has ever made about who belongs there.

This isn't an argument against accountability. It's an argument for proportionality, context, and humanity.

I am grieving for Dr. Arday's children and his wife, but also for the many Black professors who continue to navigate isolation, hypervisibility, scrutiny, and imposter syndrome in institutions where they can be highly accomplished and still made to feel as though they have to prove that they belong.
