Every four weeks, blood donors help Shawn’s children continue living full lives. ❤️

Shawn Jones leads a team of phlebotomists at Versiti, but her connection to blood donation is also deeply personal. Her adult children, Shatoya and Darryl, both live with sickle cell disease and rely on regular blood transfusions.

“Without the transfusions, they probably wouldn’t be here or have the quality of life they do now,” Shawn says.

Seeing what blood donors have made possible for her family inspired Shawn to begin her career at Versiti 17 years ago. Today, she sees every donor who walks through our doors as a lifeline for patients and families across our communities.

We join the U.S. Surgeon General in encouraging eligible donors across the country to give blood. Every donation helps support patients who need blood for trauma care, surgeries, cancer treatment and other lifesaving care.
