✨Summer Skin Care✨
Summer in the deep south is miserable. It’s hot AND humid 🥵 and the bugs are horrendous. For horses in our region it can come with a lot of problems: anhidrosis, asthma, and skin issues. The skin is the largest organ of the body, and just like all the other organs, it needs to be taken care of too!
We ⭐️LOVE⭐️ the Kinetic Vet Equishield products for equine skin issues-they are formulated specifically for horses and offer amazing results-no matter what skin issue you’re dealing with!
Here is a list of some of the products we recommend and when to use each one.
🫧 AO Shampoo — The Aloe and Oatmeal shampoo is a non-medicated shampoo used to cleanse and soothe the skin while leaving a light lavender scent. This is a general shampoo mainly used for a good spa session that will leave your horse soft and smelling good!
🧴 Vetasan Ointment — This ointment contains chlorhexidine and is used for topical antimicrobial skin care. Use this over wounds/abrasions and areas of rain rot.
☀️🪰 SB Sunblock — This sunblock is used to protect pink or lightly pigmented skin from sun exposure while also helping to repel insects with citronella. It is also infused with chlorhexidine to help treat any skin abrasions or irritated skin caused by sunburn.
🌿🩹 CK Salve & Shampoo — CK products contain both chlorhexidine and ketoconazole-an anti-microbial and anti-fungal in one. They are used for common skin conditions like ring worm and rain rot and help soothe irritated skin while healing.
🪰🌿 IBH Salve & Spray — Insect bite hypersensitivity is a very common allergy we see in horses. IBH products contain an antimicrobial for open sores, a steroid and pramoxine to help relieve itching, as well as fly repellent to help repel gnats and flies. These products come in both a spray and salve.
🌸🥣 SA Powder — Equishield skin and allergy powder is a feed-through supplement used to support horses with skin and allergy issues. It’s highly palatable and contains MSM, vitamin E, and quercetin, a natural antihistamine.
🐎🤍 Keramend Paste — Keramend paste is used for white line disease and thrush and is applied directly to the affected hoof area. It is infused with copper sulfate and antimicrobials to help target these common hoof issues.
🐴💗 IR Shampoo & Spray — The itch relief shampoo and spray are used to provide relief from itchy, irritated skin. These products contain both a steroid and pramoxine to resolve itching, as well as colloidal oatmeal which helps provide a barrier to skin for allergens.
🧪🔥 CK HC Salve & Shampoo — CK HC products contain chlorhexidine, ketoconazole, and hydrocortisone. The same products as CK, but have a steroid added and are used for inflammatory and infectious skin conditions, helping address microbial causes while reducing inflammation and itching.
