Because we’ve ALL flipped our lid. 🧠😡🏃🥶 Understanding the “upstairs” and “downstairs” brain helps us see what’s happening beneath a child’s behavior - and how our brains influence the way we respond when we’re overwhelmed.

When a child “flips their lid,” they aren’t choosing to be difficult. Their thinking brain has temporarily gone offline, and they need connection, co-regulation and support before correction. 💙

The more we understand what’s happening in a child’s brain, the better equipped we are to meet them where they are, help them regulate and build the skills they need to thrive.

Today is National Nonprofit Day! 💙 Nonprofit work means showing up to uplift lives and strengthen communities. For us, that work is showing up for children and families- sometimes in big ways and sometimes in the small, everyday moments that make a lasting difference.

From counseling, to advocacy, to education, and prevention, our programs meet people where they are and help them move forward!

But we couldn't do it alone. Our staff, volunteers, donors and community partners make this work possible. Thank you for believing in the children and families we serve and for helping us make hope available when it's needed most. 💙

Our counselors deserve to be celebrated. 💙 Our regions take time to celebrate the counselors who pour their time, compassion, and heart into the children and families we serve across Louisiana and Mississippi.

This quarter, our Northeast Louisiana team had a little fun at our main office as a small way to say thank you for the important work they do every day. 🎉

We’re also incredibly grateful to the local businesses who donated items to help us celebrate our clinicians. Your generosity helped make these moments special and reminded our team that their work is seen, valued, and appreciated.

To our counselors: thank you for showing up, listening, caring, and helping families find hope. We’re so grateful for you! 💙

And to our Northeast Louisiana community partners who helped us celebrate - thank you for supporting the people who support our families!

What is TBRI? 🤔 TBRI® (Trust-Based Relational Intervention®) is a trauma-informed care approach designed to meet the unique needs of children who have experienced adversity or trauma. It’s not just for professionals—it’s for anyone who works with or cares for children.

If you think TBRI might not apply to you or the children in your life, we challenge you to pause and ask yourself:
💙 Have you cared for children who’ve experienced abuse or neglect?
💙 Did you or someone close to you experience a stressful pregnancy?
💙 Was the birth process traumatic in any way?

These experiences deeply shape how children grow, connect, and thrive—and TBRI can help. 🌟 Want to learn more?

Finding the right counselor for your child matters. 💙 Counseling starts with creating a space where children feel safe enough to be themselves.

As a Licensed Professional Counselor at The Hope Center, Kirstie works with children ages 3–15 and their families, helping them navigate anxiety, trauma, behavioral challenges, anger, self-esteem, social skills, and more.

Children don’t always have the words to explain what they’re feeling. Sometimes they communicate through play, art, games, and behavior — and those moments can tell us a lot.

We’re giving you a little glimpse into Kirstie, her approach, and why she loves this work.

If you’ve been wondering whether counseling could benefit your child, you don’t have to figure it out alone.
