If you follow me you likely know that I specialize in working with babies and young children. But did you know that before I did that I had a more typical SLP job where I helped students with reading and executive functioning difficulties? I worked with this amazing young woman in high school and through her first year of college. Even though it’s been multiple years since she has needed me, she texted me to let me know that she is studying for finals and using the color coding and notecard strategies I taught her and it just made my day!!!

No matter on what you are working on with me, my goal is always for you to NOT need me! Breastfeeding, bottle feeding, starting solids, picky eating, or executive functioning and reading comprehension, it’s all the same goal of being independent and successful without me! As bittersweet as it is to say goodbye when families reach that goal, it is always what we are working towards. And if you ever feel like dropping me a note just to let me know how well you are doing, just know that I will remember you and celebrate every time!

My husband loves to cook, it’s one of the things I loved about him from the beginning. Pre-kids he would cook salads like this all the time using seasonal ingredients we would get from the farmers market each week. While that is not our lifestyle anymore, we still try to cook as much as possible, and we do try to throw a salad in there as often as we can. As a feeding therapist, I know that if I placed any of these salads in front of my kids with no prep and no explanation I would hear “ew” “I hate that” or something along those lines.

When this happens, it can feel like you’re stuck between two equally unappealing choices: you can get into a power struggle with your child and try to force them to eat it… or you can concede and make something else. Unfortunately, both of those methods over time lead to picky and selective eating and miserable mealtimes for the whole family.

By building in exposure and confidence with food and eating as soon as you start feeding your children solids, you can avoid (some) of the fights over food. This can start at 6 months old or 6 years old!

Build in the expectation that you don’t have to like everything… and that you don’t even have to try everything! ⭐️ Meet your children where they are while setting firm boundaries so you aren’t cooking a different meal for every person. ⭐️

Not sure how to do this? Already stuck in a rough pattern with your kid and struggling getting them to eat? Reach out and schedule a call to see how I can help support you and your child!

There is something so special about your kids loving the music you love. There is also something so special about loving from the phase in life where works are mispronounced and adorable to where music lyrics are misheard and adorable. For this pink loving boy (the color, although he does love the musician too) I’m going to let this song be Pink Shirt for as long as I can 🥰. AI did a great cover of “Come on Get Higher” maybe we try to have AI redo “Kinks Shirt” next!
