Nancy Scudera

Nancy Kay Scudera, age 81, of Montello, Wisconsin, joined her beloved husband and two daughters in heaven on Sunday, October 18, 2026.

Nancy was born on August 31, 1945, in Madison, Wisconsin, to her mother, Delores, and her adoptive father, Thomas Nash. She graduated from West High School and married the love of her life, Joseph Scudera, on May 23, 1964. Together, they built a life and raised their family in Madison.

Nancy had many interests throughout her life, but her greatest joy was being a dedicated homemaker. She poured her heart into raising her children and creating a warm, welcoming home for family, friends, and neighbors. Her love was often expressed through the meals she prepared and the canned goods she lovingly shared with those around her.

Fall weekends meant cheering on the Green Bay Packers and gathering around the campfire. Nancy and Joseph treasured their annual winter escapes to Isla Mujeres, Mexico, where they enjoyed getting away from the cold Wisconsin winters together. Summers were spent camping in the Montello area, a place that eventually became their permanent home in 2000 when they settled near Lake Puckaway.

In her final years, Nancy faced dementia with grace and resilience. Although she spent time in memory care, her signature wit, sassy spirit, and deep love for her family remained. Nancy will be remembered for her unique blend of sass and gentleness, her generous heart, and the comfort she brought to others through her cooking, her home, and simply being herself.

Nancy is survived by her son, Joe (Brandee) of Hastings, Minnesota; seven grandchildren, Amber (Rufus), Josh (Kaitlyn), Zach (Amber), Domenic (McKenzie), Bryce, Morgan (Luke), and Courtney; and ten great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her son-in-law, Mark Ritter, and extended family in the Madison area.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Joseph, in May 2026; and her two daughters, Wendy Wanta and Gina Ritter.

The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Our House Memory Care and Moments Hospice for the compassion, kindness, and care they provided Nancy during the final stages of her illness.

Nancy leaves behind a legacy of love, family, laughter, and generosity. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her. Private services for Nancy will be held at a later date.

Debra Atwater

Debra “Deb” M. Atwater, age 73 of Montello passed away Monday, October 19, 2026 at her home. Debra was born in Milwaukee on May 8, 1953 to Merrill and Dolores (Strahota) Schweder. She was raised in the Village of Marquette and graduated from Markesan High School in 1971. Deb married William Atwater on February 14, 1998 at The Echoes Campground in Montello which they owned and operated. Together they lived in several states before Bill’s passing on March 19, 2015. Deb returned to Montello where she enjoyed many years of rural living, most recently she moved into town.

Deb was known to be a loyal friend, master storyteller and the rock of her family; Sunday dinners, holidays and parties will never be the same. She loved nature and had countless pets over the years. Deb touched many lives and will be remembered for her strong work ethic and caring personality.

Deb is survived by her three children: Andrea (Dan) Klapper, Jon (Amy) Dolgner and Kristina (Joe) Violetto all of Montello along with seven grandchildren: Aaron, Jesse, Tiffany, Natalee, Colin, Heidi and Andrew. She is also survived by her brother, Jon (Suzi Giesen) Schweder and canine companion, Lady Frances Fig as well as many extended family members.

In addition to her parents and husband, Deb is also preceded in death by her grandson, Sean Klapper, siblings: Richard Schweder and Kristine (John) Wassong as well as canine companions: Sophie and Sassy.

A memorial visitation will be held for Debra Atwater on Friday, October 23, 2026 from 3:00 until 6:00 PM at the Crawford Funeral Home in Montello. There will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers, donations are preferred to the family or Donate Life Of Wisconsin, 17145 J W Bluemound Road #179, Brookfield, WI 53005.

Sandra Podbregar

Sandra “Sandy” Karen Podbregar, age 72 of Montello (Lake Puckaway) passed away peacefully at her home with family by her side on Sunday, October 18, 2026. Sandy was born in Chicago on January 17, 1954 to George and Martha “Jane” (Deboe) Patton. She was raised in Carpentersville, IL and graduated from Irving Crown High School in 1972. Sandy was united in marriage to Carl Podbregar and enjoyed 44 years together until he passed in 2015.

Sandy was employed for many years at Marshall Fields and also a bus driver for special needs children. In retirement, she relocated to Lake Puckaway and was very proud of what she accomplished. Sandy loved to entertain and be around her friends and family. She looked forward to summer and spending time gardening, boating, camping and bowling. Sandy will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and loving spirit.

Sandy is survived by her children: Carolyn (Tim) Rabel of Naperville, IL, Frank of Wautoma and Victoria (Tom Forbes) Podbregar of Lake In The Hills, IL as well as grandchildren: Karen (Daniel), Kyle and Melissa and great-granddaughter, Hattie. She is also survived by her siblings: Roy Patton, Tommy Patton and Ronda Patton and her boyfriend of many years, Bob Beck.

A Celebration of Sandy’s Life will be held at a later date.

Debra Torkelson

Debra "Deb" Torkelson, age 62 of Montello passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, with both of her daughters by her side. Deb was born July 13, 1964 in Rockford, IL to James and Florence (Cooper) DeLong.

Deb is survived by her two daughters: Brittany (Jake Parks) Beahm of Montello and Kaylie (Jared Hughes) Reyes of Waupun and her brother, Dale DeLong of Montello as well as her grandchildren: Jaydyn, Kinsley, Caleb and Casen all of Montello.

Deb is preceded in death by her parents and brothers: Steve and Daniel DeLong.

Honoring Deb's wishes, no services will be held.

Summer Whipple

Summer Lynn Whipple, age 49 of Packwaukee passed away Saturday, October 10, 2026 at Rosemore Village in Wild Rose under hospice care. Summer was born in Bartow, Florida on July 2, 1977 and moved with her family to rural Montello in 2007. She gained many friends and life skills through her time at Diverse Options in Montello and Northwoods Inc. in Portage. Summer loved music, dancing, and all things with hearts and stars. She always looked forward to the next WWE Wrestling match and will be remembered for her infectious smile and ability to light up a room.

Summer is survived by father, Gary (Judy Kroupa) Whipple of Packwaukee and cousin, Catrina (Charles) Reed as well as many other extended family members. She is preceded in death by her mother, Dawn Whipple and uncle, Robert Whipple.

Summer’s life will be celebrated privately.
