Healthy gums may be an important part of a healthy heart.

Research has found an association between periodontal (gum) disease and cardiovascular disease, including heart attacks and strokes.

Periodontal disease is a chronic inflammatory condition. When gums are infected and inflamed, bacteria can enter the bloodstream, and the resulting inflammatory response may have effects beyond the mouth.
