John Van Cleve
Faith, Family, and Friends - John had his priorities straight.
On August 31, 2026, John B. Van Cleve went home to be with his Lord and Savior, where, in glory, he met up with his daughter, Stacie Van Cleve; father, Richard Van Cleve; brother, Mark Van Cleve; and other brothers and sisters in Christ.
John had a heart for people and a genuine desire to serve others. He especially cared about reaching those who were lost and helping them find hope in Jesus. His faith was an important part of his life. He loved Jesus, enjoyed spending time in his Bible and devotionals, and loved sharing his faith with others. His greatest hope was in Christ, and he desired for others to know the same hope and love he had found in Him.
He was born on September 23, 1956, in Michigan. As a young boy, his family relocated to California, where he spent the majority of his youth and young adulthood. He attended John F. Kennedy High School and graduated in 1976. He worked at various places, including Boeing and Zero Corporation (APW), and was transferred to Indiana where he met Julie in 1998. The two forgiven prodigals were married on November 8, 2003. He then was employed by Hubbell Premise Wiring, from which he retired after years and received various awards.
John was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who treasured his family. He was the kind of person who enjoyed being around people, making memories, sharing a meal, having a great sense of humor, and simply spending time together. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, working in his woods, golf, dart ball, and cooking, and was always in search of a new recipe. He was an avid sports fan, especially of Notre Dame. He enjoyed Friday morning breakfasts with the guys and had a particular appreciation for bourbon. Above all, John especially cherished his time with his family and the people he loved.
John attended Monticello United Methodist Church, where he served on the mission team; he was on the security team and attended a Bible study with Julie at LifeSong Church; and he was a member of the Idaville First Church of God, where he was currently on the dart ball team and serving as a liaison for the Logansport Kairos team. He was also currently serving on the board for the Indiana Plumbing Commission.
His survivors include his wife, Julie; his mother, Adele; his daughters and their families: Megan Van Cleve; Andrea (Tony) Cohen, Sage, Jewel, Violet, Lilah, Cora, Guinevere, and Heidi; Brittany (Caleb) McCall, Ryan, Layne, and Madilyn; Tiffany (Brian) Harrison, Gradyn, Camden, and Pearl; his siblings, Karen Van Cleve and Craig Van Cleve; his sister-in-law, JoEllen (Mark) Kelley, Casondra, Carson, and Camron; his brother-in-law, Jim (Jackie) Melin, Jake, Riley, and Daniel; his aunt, Rose Meyer; his niece, Jessika (Matt) Simo, Ella; and other loved relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 11, 2026, at Springer-Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home of Monticello.Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the funeral home, with Pastor Justin Cason and Pastor Brad Stroetz officiating. Please wear casual dress.
Burial will follow in Riverview I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be given to Kairos Prison Ministry of Indiana. Make checks payable to KPMI/Logansport Torch. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
