Stevens Community Medical Center (SCMC) is a 25-bed critical access hospital, fully-integrated, healthcare delivery system located in Morris, MN. that provides a broad array of medical, surgical and mental health services. SCMC has a full-service clinic on-site and also a satellite clinic located in Starbuck, Minnesota. Among the services at SCMC they provide an Urgent Care, a behavioral medicine

clinic, eye clinic, physical therapy (NovaCare Rehabilitation), infusion therapy, and many more specialty services. SCMC is also home to the Courage Cottage, a 5-bed ‘home away from home’ for specialized care. There is a discounted/sliding fee schedule available based on family size and income. SCMC thrives on patient-centered care and operates as a non-profit 501(c)(3).

Today, we’re sharing the story of someone who knows Courage Cottage from a different perspective. Stacie spent nearly nine years as a Courage Cottage employee, caring for residents and getting to know the families who became such an important part of her life.

For Stacie, Courage Cottage felt like a warm hug—and that feeling has stayed with her long after her time as an employee.This is the heart of Courage Cottage.It’s the relationships that are built. The little moments that become lasting memories. The extra things done simply to brighten someone's day. And the way caring for others can leave an imprint on your own heart, too.

Twenty-five years later, those connections continue.

Learn the warning signs of suicide—for the people in your life, and for yourself.

Changes in mood, sleep or behavior. Withdrawing from others. Talking about feeling hopeless, being a burden, or having no reason to live. These can be signs that someone may be struggling and could need support.

Know the signs. Start the conversation. Be a lifeline.

If you're concerned about someone, don't be afraid to ask how they're doing and connect them with help.

Today, we’re sharing the story of a resident who experienced Courage Cottage firsthand.

Giving up some independence and accepting help from others can be difficult. Sometimes, it takes a gentle nudge from the people who love us most to accept the care we need.

But sometimes, that first step leads to something unexpected—a place that feels like home.
