You do not need to wait until your ovaries are done working !
This is a very misunderstood concept and unfortunately it keeps women feeling very poorly during transition.
STORY TIME:
I added estrogen to my own HRT several months ago. I had the symptoms of low estrogen. It was a life changer for me. Brain fog, mood - all improved with estradiol! You don’t have to wait until menopause to start feeling better!
One of the most common misconceptions surrounding hormone therapy is that women must wait until their ovaries have stopped functioning and they’ve reached full menopause before considering estrogen therapy.
The truth? Estrogen therapy may be appropriate for some women during perimenopause, too.
During these transitional years, hormone levels can fluctuate significantly. While progesterone production often declines as ovulation becomes less consistent, estrogen levels can rise and fall unpredictably. These changes may contribute to disrupted sleep, mood changes, hot flashes, night sweats, and other symptoms that affect your quality of life.
So how do we determine whether estrogen is right for you?
It begins with a comprehensive medical history, a thorough evaluation of your symptoms, a physical examination when indicated, and targeted laboratory testing when clinically appropriate. Because hormone levels fluctuate during perimenopause, a single estrogen measurement doesn’t always tell the whole story.
Hormone therapy should be individualized based on your symptoms, medical history, risk factors, and personal health goals.
The bottom line? You don’t have to wait until menopause to address symptoms that are affecting your quality of life.
For some women, estrogen may be the missing piece in their perimenopausal treatment plan.
You deserve to feel your best during the transition—not just after it. 💜
