You don't have to earn your place in every room you walk into.

But if you have ADHD and a long history of managing other people's reactions to you, people pleasing can become so automatic it stops feeling like a choice.

You say yes before you've decided. You smooth things over before there's even a conflict. You work twice as hard to be easy to be around.

Somewhere along the way, you may have learned that being yourself without the extra effort wasn't always enough. And you adapted.

That adaptation made sense then. It may be costing you now.

This is exactly the kind of pattern therapy is built for. Not because something is wrong with you, but because untangling it is hard to do alone, and you don't have to.

If this resonates, you don't have to wait until things fall apart to reach out. drmunn.com. 💙

Feeling like a burden is one of the most painful parts of ADHD, and one of the hardest thoughts to argue with, because it can pull up real examples.

Times you forgot. Times you needed more help. Times something fell through.

Here is one tool that helps interrupt it:

When the thought arrives, don't try to disprove it. Instead, ask one question:

Is this thought describing a pattern, or is it describing today?

Patterns deserve attention, care, and support. A hard day, a mistake, or a moment of needing help is not a pattern. It is a moment.

Moments do not define you. And needing support is not the same as being a burden.

Save this for the next time that thought shows up. 💙

Why do so many adults with ADHD apologize constantly? Not just for real mistakes, but for asking questions, for needing things, for taking up space?

It usually isn't simple low self-esteem. It's a learned response.

When you've spent years in environments where your behavior frequently triggered correction, frustration, or disappointment, apologizing becomes a way of managing that reaction before it arrives. You apologize first to reduce the risk of being criticized.

Over time, that pattern becomes automatic. The apology stops being about repair and starts being about protection.

What can actually help:

Notice when you're apologizing to repair something real versus to prevent someone's reaction. Pause before the automatic apology and ask: did I actually do something wrong here? Practice replacing "sorry" with a neutral acknowledgment: "thanks for your patience" or simply saying nothing.

You don't have to earn your place in every conversation. Save this if you apologize more than you mean to. 💙

3 signs your comparison spiral might be driven by ADHD, not an accurate read of your life:

One: you compare your behind-the-scenes to everyone else's highlight reel and treat it as an even comparison.

Two: you focus on the one area you feel behind in while discounting the areas where you are actually doing well.

Three: the comparison hits fast and intensely, and talking yourself out of it rarely helps in the moment.

ADHD is associated with stronger emotional responses to perceived failure, including social comparison. The spiral feels like clear-eyed self-assessment. It is often emotional information moving faster than the facts can catch up.

That is a brain pattern. It is not a verdict on your worth or your progress.

Save this for the next time someone else's life makes yours feel smaller. 💙
