Men are often told what depression looks like. But for a lot of men, it doesn't look like that at all.

It's not sadness or tearfulness. It's irritability. Restlessness. Pulling away. Leaning harder on substances to get through the day.

When your experience doesn't match what you've been told to look for, it's easy to assume you're just stressed, not that you might actually need support.

That's one of the reasons so many men go without help for so long. Not because they aren't struggling, but because they don't recognize what they're feeling as something that counts.

If something feels off, that's worth paying attention to. Even if it doesn't look like what you'd expect.

Men are 4 times more likely to die by su***de than women. And 60% of those men had no documented mental health history, meaning they never asked for help at all.

That's not because men don't struggle. It's because so many of them were taught that struggling is something to hide.

The pressure to "man up." The stigma that makes depression feel like failure. The friendships that are built around doing things, not saying things. It all adds up quietly over time.

In our latest blog, we're talking about why so many men never reach out, what mental health struggles actually look like in men (it's often not what you'd expect), and what the rest of us can do to make it a little easier to ask for help.

If you're a man reading this, you don't have to be at a breaking point to reach out. And if you love someone who is, this one's worth reading.

Rest is not a reward you earn. It's a need your body was always allowed to have.

So many of us were taught that we have to earn rest, finish the to-do list, hit the goal, push through. Rest was something you got after you'd done enough.

But your nervous system doesn't work that way. Rest isn't a prize. It's maintenance. It's how you stay regulated, present, and human.

Choosing to rest when the world is telling you to hustle is one of the most radical acts of self-compassion there is. You don't have to be exhausted to deserve it.

💬 What does rest actually look like for you right now?

"When people are used to performing well despite their anxiety, they may minimize their own struggles or feel like they're 'not struggling enough' to deserve help."

This line from our blog on perfectionism and high-functioning anxiety stopped us in our tracks — because we hear it so often in the room.

You don't have to hit a wall to deserve support. Quiet, persistent distress is still distress.

Healing isn't linear. And that's not a setback. It's just the truth.

Some days you'll feel like yourself again. Then something small pulls you right back. And you wonder if you've made any progress at all.

You have. I promise you have.

Healing doesn't move in a straight line from broken to whole. It spirals. You revisit the same wounds at different depths, with more tools each time. That's not regression, that's the work.

Give yourself credit for showing up again, even on the hard days. That is what healing looks like.

Perfectionism isn't just about having high standards. It's the guilt when you rest. The anxiety after small mistakes. The feeling that your best is never quite good enough.

On the outside, it can look like drive and discipline. On the inside, it often feels like exhaustion and a constant inner voice telling you to do more, do it better, do it without struggling.

If that sounds familiar, you're not alone. And it doesn't have to feel this way.

In our latest blog, we break down how perfectionism fuels high-functioning anxiety, what signs to look for, and practical strategies to start pushing back, including how therapy can help you build a different relationship with achievement, rest, and mistakes.

You don’t need permission to take care of yourself.

Self-care isn’t a reward or something that requires approval from anyone else. It’s a basic need, a way to honor your well-being, and a necessary part of living a balanced life.

Taking time for yourself doesn’t make you selfish. It allows you to show up more fully, think more clearly, and engage more meaningfully with the world around you. Your health and happiness matter just as much as anyone else’s.
