September is Rheumatic Disease Awareness Month (RADM). This year's (2025) campaign is RheumMoves: Exercise for Individuals Living with Rheumatic Diseases. The issue is addressing the knowledge gap regarding exercise and rheumatic disease. The goal is to encourage patients to collaborate with their physicians to find appropriate exercises to help manage their condition.

Lundbeck, a biopharmaceutical company, is currently studying an investigational antibody treatment for chronic migraine with failure of at least 1-4 prior therapies.

At this time, they have completed phase 2 of the trial with promising results.

Focus of their current trial is to assess the appropriate medication dosing for migraine prevention.

This is promising news for those of you who suffer with chronic migraines but have not responded to other therapies.

Did you know...

Scleroderma is not localized to the skin and can, in fact, affect multiple internal organs.

- GI: scleroderma can affect the entire digestive tract manifesting as trouble swallowing, heartburn, constipation, diarrhea, etc.

- Kidneys: a severe clinical manifestation called scleroderma renal crisis presenting as severe hypertension and progressive kidney failure

- Lungs: scleroderma can present as pulmonary fibrosis and pulmonary hypertension manifesting as shortness of breath and cough

- Heart: scleroderma can affect heart muscles leading to cardiomyopathy, arrhythmias, and pericarditis

- Vascular: scleroderma may cause vascular scarring leading to decreased blood flow. Other manifestations include Raynaud's syndrome manifesting as triphasic color changes (white, blue, red) of the fingers and toes typically in response to cold.
