It is with great sadness and immense love that we announce the passing of LouEtta Ann Shrum, who passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter on June 7, 2026, at the age of 73. She was lovingly cared for by her family during the final weeks of a year-long battle with stage four lung cancer.

Lou was preceded in death by her loving husband of 50 years, Terry Lee Shrum Sr.; her sister, Karen Kirin Armstrong; and her mother, father and stepfather.

To many, she was Lou. She was born on November 16, 1952 in West Brownsville, Pennsylvania. On April 3, 1971 she married the absolute love of her life.

More than four decades ago, they made the Outer Banks their home. While she embraced the coastal breeze, she never lost the warm, steadfast spirit of her Pennsylvania roots.

She taught her children the importance of keeping their word, the value of honesty, and always listen to their hearts. She lived her life with authenticity, a trait she firmly passed down to her two children, both of whom are just as stubborn as she was.

When she wasn’t relaxing watching Hallmark movies, she could often be found spending time with her children, or grandchildren, or enjoying a lively game of bingo, always ready for the next call. At the end of last year, she developed a newfound love for cruising, which allowed her to enjoy the sea on a grander scale.

Lou is survived by her children, Terry Shrum II and Stephanie Scarborough (Clayton); her three grandchildren, Lillian, Jordyn and Terry III; and many more extended family and friends.

She will be deeply missed and forever loved by her family, her friends, and the coastal community she was a part of for over forty years.

No services are planned at this time. Please share expressions of sympathy for the family at www.gallopfuneralservices.com,. Gallop Funeral Services was entrusted with arrangements.

Andrew J. “Andy” Mallory, 47, of Manteo, NC passed away peacefully at his family residence on June 5, 2026. Andy lived a life defined by breaking records and exceeding expectations in his many journeys in life. He was an optimist, compassionate, and devoted to building a better world around him. Even in his battle against cancer, he lived a grateful and giving life.

Andy was a man that aspired to surpass all standards. A proud US Marine, he attained the rank of Sergeant in just four short years, surpassing the normal progression path. After being diagnosed with a bleak and grim disease, he proceeded to exceed life expectancy by nearly six years, a true testament to his grit and determination. No matter the journey in life, Andy always took the opportunity to see the “glass half full,” always looking forward to the future and its many promising prospects.

He truly loved his family and considered them the cornerstone to his daily purpose; as a committed and steadfast father, he found comfort and joy in the presence of his sons, Andrew and Barrett. Andy took every opportunity to watch his children grow and prosper and was always the biggest supporter of their hopes and dreams. He also found a sacred camaraderie with his beloved brother Eddy, as the two were inseparable from childhood.

Andy will be remembered as a man who contributed his all to his family, friends, and many pursuits in life. He was a pivotal patient in spearheading the fight against Glioblastoma and has cemented a legacy that goes far beyond his own life. He will be cited in medical literature and will be remembered for generations to come as the man who beat all odds, no matter how dire the circumstances.

He is survived by his sons, Andrew Mallory Jr. (Yessenia Castillo) of Durham, NC, and Barrett Mallory of Manns Harbor, NC. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Violet Mallory also of Durham; his mother, Barbara Morgan of Manteo; brother, Edgar “Eddy” Mallory (Michelle Ho**er), six nieces and nephews; and wife, Candice Mallory.

Andy’s funeral service will be held at 3:30pm, Tuesday, June 9, 2026 at Roanoke Island Presbyterian Church. Friends and family may view from 6 to 8 pm, Monday, June 8, 2026 at Gallop Funeral Chapel in Nags Head.
