Primitive reflexes are often talked about as “baby reflexes,” but their impact goes far beyond infancy. 🧠
These early movement patterns help build neural pathways, support sensory processing, guide motor milestones, and signal cortical maturation. When reflexes are not fully integrated, children may continue to rely on primitive movement patterns that can affect coordination, balance, attention, regulation, and learning readiness. 🌱
At Motion360 Therapy, we use a whole-body, whole-brain approach to support development from the foundation up.

🧠 Did you know your brain's first "operating system" was installed before you were even born?

Primitive reflexes begin developing as early as 5 weeks in utero and play a critical role in helping babies survive, move, learn, and develop. These automatic movement patterns are designed to lay the foundation for higher-level skills by building the brain from the bottom up.

As children grow, these reflexes should naturally integrate, allowing the thinking brain to take over and support focus, coordination, emotional regulation, and learning.

When primitive reflexes remain active beyond infancy, they can sometimes contribute to challenges with:
• Attention and focus
• Balance and coordination
• Posture and motor skills
• Big emotions and anxiety
• Auditory processing
• Difficulty with transitions
• Sensory sensitivities
• Learning and behavior

🌿 Understanding primitive reflexes is often the first step toward understanding the "why" behind many everyday struggles.

Many children are diagnosed with ADHD, ADD, Autism, or other developmental challenges—but not enough people are asking an important question:
Why? 🤔

A diagnosis can help describe what a child is experiencing, but it doesn't always explain what may be contributing to the behaviors, learning struggles, sensory sensitivities, or emotional challenges behind it.

At Motion360 Therapy, we look deeper. We assess how the nervous system is developing and whether retained primitive reflexes may be interfering with the brain's ability to mature and function efficiently. When these foundational reflexes remain active, they can affect focus, emotional regulation, coordination, sensory processing, and learning.

Our goal isn't to focus on labels—it's to understand the underlying factors that may be making life harder than it needs to be and help build a stronger foundation for growth, confidence, and success. 🌿

If you've ever wondered whether there's more to the story than a diagnosis alone, we're here to help explore the possibilities.

Competence is about more than knowledge—it’s about the confidence, care, and professionalism people experience when they trust you with what matters most. 🌿

Research shows people often form first impressions based on two things: warmth and competence. At Motion360 Therapy, we believe both matter deeply. Families deserve care that feels compassionate and supportive, while also knowing they are receiving experienced, skilled guidance they can trust.

That balance is where meaningful progress begins.

Q. Can adults retain primitive reflexes?
A. Yes — primitive reflexes can remain active into adulthood and continue affecting everyday life in ways many people don’t realize.

Adults with retained reflexes may struggle with focus, coordination, sensory overload, anxiety, or feeling easily overwhelmed in busy or loud environments. Some also experience challenges with organization, emotional regulation, or staying attentive during tasks and conversations.

These patterns are not just something children experience. The nervous system continues to impact how we function throughout life.

At Motion360 Therapy, we’re passionate about helping both children and adults better understand their nervous systems so families can experience more calm, confidence, and connection together.

Do you often feel unsafe, anxious, overwhelmed, or unable to fully execute at work or school?

Sometimes the issue goes deeper than stress alone. A retained Moro reflex—also known as the “startle reflex”—can keep the nervous system stuck in a constant state of alert. When this reflex doesn’t properly integrate in early development, it can contribute to anxiety, sensory sensitivities, poor focus, emotional overwhelm, and even struggles with reading, writing, or job performance.

At Motion360 Therapy, we look beyond the symptoms to understand how the nervous system is functioning and help individuals feel calmer, safer, and more confident in daily life. 💛

If this sounds familiar to you or someone you love, give our office a call and schedule an appointment. We’re here to help.

This Memorial Day, we pause with gratitude and remembrance for the brave men and women who gave their lives in service to our country. 🇺🇸

Their courage, sacrifice, and selflessness made the freedoms we enjoy possible. Today, we honor their legacy and hold close the families who carry both pride and loss.

From all of us at Motion360 Therapy, thank you to those who served and to those who made the ultimate sacrifice. ❤️🤍💙

This month’s blog explores something many families experience but struggle to explain: why everyday tasks, emotions, and learning challenges can sometimes feel so much harder than they should. 🌿

At Motion360 Therapy, we believe understanding the nervous system is the key to understanding behavior, focus, coordination, and emotional regulation. When we uncover the “why” behind the struggles, real growth becomes possible.
If your child is dealing with big emotions, focus challenges, sensory sensitivities, or coordination difficulties, this blog is for you. 💛

Did you know the movements babies make in the womb actually help wire the brain for future learning and development? 👶🧠

These early movement patterns are called primitive reflexes—automatic responses that lay the foundation for focus, coordination, emotional regulation, reading, handwriting, and more.

When these reflexes don’t fully integrate, children may struggle with things that should feel easier at their age, like paying attention, sitting still, writing, or managing big emotions.

At Motion360 Therapy, we help families understand the connection between the nervous system and everyday challenges—so children can build stronger foundations for learning and success. 🌿

05/19/2026

Sometimes the issue isn’t intelligence—it’s the amount of effort the nervous system has to use just to keep up. 🌿

Retained primitive reflexes can make thinking, learning, focusing, and creating feel harder than they should. Many children (and adults) learn to compensate, but over time those compensations can lead to frustration, overwhelm, emotional outbursts, or struggles in school and daily life.

That doesn’t mean someone can’t succeed—it means they’re working far harder than necessary to do things that should feel more natural at their stage of development.

At Motion360 Therapy, we help uncover the “why” behind those struggles and support the nervous system so life can feel easier, calmer, and more manageable. 💛
