We are excited to welcome Joe Silvia as a new community partner with the Parents' Foundation for Transitional Living.

Joe brings years of experience in mental health education, advocacy, and community support through his work with treatment teams, caregivers, peer specialists, and individuals navigating schizophrenia and schizoaffective disorder. His passion for connection, education, and recovery-focused support aligns deeply with our mission and community values.

As part of this partnership, Joe will be hosting biweekly resident round tables and support groups in-house, creating additional opportunities for conversation, shared experiences, education, and peer connection within our community.

We are grateful to continue expanding meaningful partnerships that support growth, wellness, and recovery for those we serve.

There are groups, there are outings, and sometimes the most meaningful moments are the quiet, impromptu 1:1 connections like this one, simply cooking together.

Sometimes it’s these everyday moments that create the best conversations, the strongest connections, and the greatest sense of comfort and belonging.

Fresh fruit, good company, and getting out into the community

Sometimes a simple outing and a healthy treat can turn into a moment of connection, laughter, and joy. It’s the little experiences that make the biggest impact.

Parents’ Foundation for Transitional Living opened its doors in June 1992.

34 years later, we continue to honor a mission rooted in community, growth, and walking alongside residents and families on their journeys toward independence and stability.

What started as a vision of support has become a lasting home for connection, resilience, and hope. We are grateful to everyone who has been part of this story, our residents, families, staff, board, and supporters who continue to make this work possible every day.

Here’s to the lives impacted, the progress made, and the community still growing together.

What a busy and meaningful month it has been for Parents’ Foundation for Transitional Living!

This month brought so many opportunities for community connection, education, and advocacy:
- Tabling at local wellness fairs
- Participating in the New Haven Public Schools Mental Health Awareness Fair
- Joining the Chamber Board & Volunteer Fair
- Supporting the NAMI Walk
- Sharing our mission on a CT Buzz segment
- Taking part in a Great Give radio segment

We are incredibly honored to be out in the community, sharing not only the mission of Parents’ Foundation but continuing the vision our founders believed in from the very beginning: community education, awareness, and open conversations surrounding mental health.

Mental health matters every month, not just during May. We are proud to continue creating connections, support, and awareness wherever we go. Thank you to everyone who welcomed us, supported us, and helped spread the message that mental health matters.

Even though a little time has passed since May 18th, we still want to take a moment to remember and honor Shauna Devlin.

Some people leave a lasting imprint that time doesn’t soften or erase. Shauna was one of those people; her kindness, her presence, and the way she cared for others are still deeply felt by everyone who knew her.

On May 25th, 2022, we gathered at a local beach with her family to share memories of Shauna. In a quiet and meaningful moment, we attempted to light lanterns together- only one successfully made it into the sky, the one released by her mother.

We continue to hold space for her memory, the moments we shared, and the impact she made in both big and quiet ways. Today, we take a moment to remember the life she lived and all she continues to give through the people she touched.

On this Memorial Day, we hold space for remembrance and gratitude in our community. We honor those who made the ultimate sacrifice, and we are thankful for our Executive Director and her service in the Air Force, as well as her continued dedication to our residents and families.
