Welcome to our new series of "Ask the Funeral Director". This weeks question:

Q. We have planned and paid for our funeral with another funeral home and we now wish to use Fielden Funeral Home for our services, do we have to use the other funeral home or can you help us?

A. The money you have paid is still your money in terms of
deciding where you want your services to take place. Just a few weeks ago we helped a wonderful family from Blaine, TN, they had prearranged with a Knoxville funeral home but wanted to use Fielden's instead. Without any effort from the family, we handled all services timely and we were honored to help them. Transfer of the arrangements can happen before or even after the death has occurred. We are glad to see the state making changes to increase eligibility for veterans of the National Guard.

Guard members and their family will now be able to utilize the benefits of the State of TN Veterans Cemetery. See below for a release from the governor.

Governor Bill Lee has signed new legislation expanding eligibility for interment in our State Veterans Cemeteries, ensuring more National Guard, Reserve members, and eligible dependents receive the dignity and recognition they’ve earned through their service.
From responding to emergencies here at home to defending our freedoms across the nation, their dedication has strengthened Tennessee in countless ways. This new law ensures their service is honored without placing a financial burden on their loved ones, providing a lasting place of remembrance and respect.
To all who have served, and to the families who sacrifice alongside them, we are grateful.

Today we are starting a new weekly " Ask the Funeral Director" series. We will take questions that we receive and share them with you along with our answers. You are welcome to email your questions to [email protected] or send them to us in Messenger. We hope to help our community feel more equipped when the time comes to make decisions surrounding death.

Today's question: Why do people pull over when meeting a funeral procession?
Anwer: Respect. It is the most simple, yet profound way we can show respect for the family and for the deceased. Taking a moment to pull to the side of the road acknowledges the life of the person being transported to their final resting place. If it is not safe to pull over you can simply slow your vehicle to acknowledge the procession, never place yourself or others in danger. Also, it is important to remember the funeral procession has the right of way through intersections with or without traffic signals.
