Happy Arts and Health Day!
Through our Arts For EveryBody program, we’ve seen firsthand how creativity, whether through dancing, cooking, writing, or painting, or other activities, plays a powerful role in our patients’ and communities’ wellbeing.
Engaging with or creating art gives us an outlet to process our emotions and induces a meditative state that promotes mindfulness. Art actively lowers stress and improves mood. Participation in the arts is beneficial and necessary to our physical, mental, and spiritual health.
Participating in the arts also creates space for self-expression and for learning about different backgrounds, perspectives, and beliefs. Art enriches our lives, both individually and collectively.
This is also at the heart of social prescribing, an approach to care that connects patients to community resources, like the arts, alongside traditional medical treatment.
