They can both improve the appearance of the abdomen, but they address different problems.

Liposuction removes localized excess fat and helps improve body contour.

A tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) removes excess skin and can tighten separated abdominal muscles, making it especially useful after pregnancy or significant weight loss.

The right procedure depends on your skin quality, amount of excess fat, abdominal muscle separation, and overall goals.

In this short video, I explain the key differences so you can better understand which approach may be appropriate for you.

Mini tummy tuck vs. full tummy tuck — which one is right for you?

I get this question all the time, so I wanted to explain the basic difference in about 30 seconds.

A mini tummy tuck is generally designed for patients with excess skin and laxity primarily below the belly button.

A full tummy tuck addresses a larger portion of the abdomen and can include removal of excess skin, tightening/repair of the abdominal muscles, and repositioning of the belly button.

The important thing is that there is no one-size-fits-all tummy tuck. During a consultation, I evaluate your anatomy, skin quality, muscle laxity, and overall goals to determine which approach is most appropriate.

If you're considering a tummy tuck or mommy makeover, save this video and send it to someone who needs to see it.

Mommy Makeover vs. Body Contouring After Weight Loss

When people hear “Mommy Makeover,” they often assume it’s only for mothers—but that’s not the full picture.

A Mommy Makeover is really a customized body contouring plan designed to address the changes that occur after pregnancy, significant weight fluctuations, or major weight loss. That includes patients who have lost a substantial amount of weight through lifestyle changes, bariatric surgery, or GLP-1 medications such as Ozempic®, Wegovy®, or Zepbound®.

These patients often present with very similar concerns:
• Loose or excess skin
• Stretched abdominal muscles
• Loss of breast volume or breast shape changes
• Loss of body definition despite weight loss success

Surgery may include a combination of:

Tummy tuck (abdominoplasty)
Liposuction / VASER® liposuction
Breast lift or augmentation
Breast reduction
Fat transfer

Every plan is individualized.

One of the most important parts of my practice is helping patients understand that more surgery is not always better surgery. While some procedures can be safely combined, there are many situations where I recommend staging operations into separate phases to improve safety, recovery, and overall results.

This is not a new philosophy for me—it has always been the foundation of how I approach cosmetic surgery. With more than 13 years of experience and thousands of body contouring procedures, my focus remains consistent: careful planning, surgical precision, and patient safety above all else.

At New York Surgical Arts, we specialize in natural-looking body contouring in a fully accredited AAAHC surgical facility, where every case is tailored to the individual—not a template.

If you're considering body contouring after pregnancy or significant weight loss, I encourage you to seek a consultation where your anatomy, goals, and safety can be properly evaluated.

Losing weight on GLP-1 medications like Ozempic®, Wegovy®, Mounjaro®, or Zepbound® is a tremendous accomplishment—but many patients are surprised by the loose, hanging skin that can remain after significant weight loss.

As a board-certified cosmetic surgeon, I see this every day. While GLP-1 medications help patients lose weight, they cannot tighten excess skin. The only effective solution for significant skin laxity is surgical skin excision and body contouring.

Whether the excess skin is on the abdomen, arms, thighs, breasts, back, or lower body, I customize a treatment plan to restore smoother, firmer, and more natural body contours.

At New York Surgical Arts in Garden City, Long Island, I specialize in post-weight-loss body contouring procedures including tummy tuck, arm lift, thigh lift, breast lift, lower body lift, and skin tightening techniques designed to help patients complete their transformation.

Weight loss is only part of the journey. Body contouring is often the final step to achieving the shape you've worked so hard for.

Schedule a consultation to learn which procedure may be right for you.

Liposuction is one of the most effective procedures for removing stubborn fat that doesn't respond to diet and exercise. As a board-certified cosmetic surgeon, I use advanced body contouring techniques to help patients achieve a more sculpted, natural-looking shape.

One important thing I always explain during consultation is that liposuction removes excess fat, but it does not tighten significant loose skin. When skin laxity is present, additional procedures such as a tummy tuck, body lift, arm lift, or thigh lift may be necessary to achieve the best result.

At New York Surgical Arts, every treatment plan is customized to the patient's anatomy and goals. My focus is always on achieving beautiful, natural-looking results while maintaining the highest standards of safety.

If you're considering liposuction or body contouring, schedule a consultation to learn which procedure—or combination of procedures—is right for you.
