Pictured is Rosemary Hill, grandmother of Jack and Kate (Our Funeral Directors). She was a woman known for sharing donuts, laughter, and kindness with family and friends. On National Donut Day, we remember the simple traditions that become cherished memories.

Today, Friday, June 5, 2026, is National Donut Day (also commonly spelled “National Doughnut Day”). It’s celebrated every year on the first Friday in June.

The holiday was established by The Salvation Army in 1938 to honor the “Doughnut Lassies,” volunteers who served doughnuts to soldiers during World War I.

A benefit and celebration of life will be held at the Buckeye Lake Eagles 2801 on Saturday, June 6, from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. formerly scheduled as a fundraiser to assist the family with funeral and final expenses, the spaghetti lunch will still be offered, as well as 50/50 drawing and Chinese auction and bake sale.

Elton and his wife, Naomi, were long-time local business owners of Roll A Way Skating Center, in Newark and The Events Center of Hanover. He was also the founder and coach of the Newark Speed Skating Team which competed in numerous multi-state roller skating races through the years. Many may remember seeing his smiling face and hearing his unique laugh in various local restaurants that he frequented.

Allen was a graduate of Newark High School, Class of 1977. For many decades, he was a skilled mechanic with special expertise in exhaust systems. He owned and operated A&M Muffler Shop on Cedar Street in Newark, where he became known for his craftsmanship.

Michael was a graduate of Bishop Ready High School and The Ohio State University, Michael was a founding partner of Arena and Harrison CPA’s. He dedicated many years to his profession and was respected for his integrity, work ethic and commitment to those he served.

Loss affects not only the heart and mind, but the body as well.

During difficult times, even small acts of movement can help bring comfort and healing. A walk outside, stretching, going to the gym, or simply moving your body can help reduce stress, improve sleep, and provide a healthy outlet for emotions that can feel overwhelming.

Exercise will never “fix” pain or sadness — because those feelings come from love — but caring for your physical health can help support you through the hardest days.

If you are mourning someone you love, give yourself grace. Some days a long workout may help. Other days, simply getting out of bed and taking a short walk is enough.

Healing does not happen all at once, but small steps matter.

At our funeral home, we understand that pets are family too.

We are honored to welcome your beloved pets prior to visitations, services, and cemetery gatherings so they can share in a final goodbye with the person they loved. We believe animals grieve too, and allowing them the opportunity to see and smell their loved one can help them process the loss in their own way.

We simply ask that pets are comfortable around people and that owners clean up after them, just as they would in any pet-friendly environment.
