It feels as though my father is still with us, as his legacy continues to be lived out through the thousands of Alltechians around the world, as well as through the many friends whose lives he impacted. These individuals continue to think, lead and act with the generosity, optimism and determination that defined Dr. Pearse Lyons.
Following his passing in 2018, we chose to honor his birthday through service, remembering words he shared that became a rallying call for us: “We made a difference.” It began as Make a Difference Day and has grown into a week of celebration — and, more importantly, a year-round commitment to doing what Dad did innately with each human connection. Man, I miss that guy!
That commitment can be seen across our global family:
• In Japan, our team returned to the same children’s home for the eighth consecutive year.
• In Kentucky, colleagues have supported Arbor Youth Services since 2016.
• In the Philippines, our team continues to support women’s safety and well-being.
• In New Zealand, colleagues maintain their long-standing support of the IHC Calf & Rural Scheme.
• In Dunboyne, our team provides local students with science, mentorship and hands-on learning.
These are not activities that only take place on one day. They are relationships our teams continue to strengthen year after year.
Sometimes making a difference means raising money. Sometimes it means sharing your time or expertise, offering encouragement or simply being present.
No contribution is too small. When thousands of individual efforts come together, they can create an impact far greater than any one person could achieve alone.
Today, we celebrate Dad by continuing to walk the path he lit, improving the lives of people, animals and communities every day.
I remember so many times — in big and small ways, in public and in private — how he made his impact. It is impossible not to feel inspired by those stories, and impossible not to bring something positive to every interaction, every day.
