We are wishing a very happy retirement to Richard Taylor, PT, MPT, PCS Director the Physical Therapy!🎉

Richard has worked at the Home for 10 years, and during that time you could find him in the hallway, cheering on residents and using creative methods to encourage them to move! He embodies our core value of FUN.

Richard also led our Meeting of the Minds discussions, bringing team members together to collaborate on clinical topics that improve resident care.

Join us in congratulating Richard on his retirement! 💙

Welcome to Camp St. Mary's ⛺🎯

The Recreational Therapy department transformed the atrium and planned two weeks of fun activities for our residents, like archery, ropes course, campfire songs, and s'mores.

On day one, they made their camp nametags and decorated their unit flags. Stay tuned for more fun camp content coming soon!

Welcome to Layla's Lemon-Aid Stand 😎🍋

Layla is carrying on the tradition of participating in Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters (CHKD)'s Anthem LemonAid campaign, raising funds to "put the squeeze" on childhood cancer.

You may notice a framed shirt on the table. We're carrying with us the memory of resident Amelia, who hosted this lemonade stand for many years before she passed away. We are continuing this tradition in her honor.💓

We’re serving up fun this week🏐

For this week’s Accessible Adventures, we’re highlighting a creative adaptive volleyball activity designed by our Recreation Therapy team. Residents press a switch to activate a leaf blower, sending the volleyball over the net and into play!

A big shoutout to our team for thinking outside the box and creating new ways for everyone to participate. The smiles and excitement made this activity a huge hit.

Accessible Adventures is all about showing that with a little creativity, activities can be adapted to include people of all abilities. 💙

🎥✨Exciting opportunity! We’re partnering with Old Dominion University's Special Education program to create training videos that will help prepare future educators to support students with disabilities. 🍎📚

Faculty members Jonna Bobzien, Ph.D., and Autumn Alexander, Ph.D., are working with our Occupational Therapy and Physical Therapy teams and residents to demonstrate techniques for feeding, positioning, transfers, and splinting.

“Literature around supporting individuals with disabilities at this level and age is extremely limited, so this is a great resource for teachers,” said Jessica Rigby, Director of Occupational Therapy.

Special thanks to COTA Betsy Turner and resident Mackenzie for letting us feature them in the videos and helping make this resource possible!

Since launching our volunteer program this summer, we’ve been blown away by the incredible support from our community! 💙

Today, we’re shining a spotlight on Angela, one of our dedicated volunteers who has been working behind the scenes supporting our HR department with administrative tasks. Her generosity, commitment, and willingness to lend a helping hand have made a meaningful impact on our team, and we are so grateful for her support.

Thank you, Angela, for helping us support our residents and team!
