Bisexual+ people are often asked to explain themselves in ways other people are not.

Too straight for some q***r spaces. Too q***r for some straight spaces. Assumed to be “confused,” “going through a phase,” or defined entirely by the gender of the person they are dating.

Those assumptions do real harm. They can make people feel isolated from community, less safe being open with providers, and less likely to seek support when they need it.

During Bisexual+ Awareness Week, we are celebrating bi, pansexual, fluid, q***r, unlabeled, and other multi-gender-attracted people, and naming something important: your identity does not disappear because of who you are dating, who you have dated, or what strangers assume about you.

At LGBT Life Center, we encourage people to show up as their full selves. No proving. No explaining. No having to be “enough” of anything to deserve care, connection, and community.

Life belongs to all of us. 💗💜💙

At LGBT Life Center, we know people do not leave parts of themselves at the door.

For Hispanic and Latino LGBTQ+ people, identity can hold culture, family, language, joy, pride, and sometimes the very real experience of navigating systems that were not built with all of those things in mind. Our work is to make sure people can access care, support, and community without having to choose which parts of themselves get seen.

During Hispanic Heritage Month, we celebrate the Hispanic and Latino LGBTQ+ people, people living with and affected by HIV, staff, clients, families, and community members who help make Hampton Roads stronger, more vibrant, and more fully itself.

And why does Hispanic Heritage Month run from September 15 to October 15? The date begins with the independence anniversaries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua on September 15. Mexico’s Independence Day follows on September 16, with Chile’s on September 18.

La fecha comienza con los aniversarios de independencia de Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras y Nicaragua, el 15 de septiembre. El Día de la Independencia de México se celebra el 16 de septiembre y el de Chile, el 18 de septiembre.
