Today, buying groceries or checking out at a store is as easy as tapping your smartphone or hovering a chip card over a quiet little screen. Beep! But remember what paying with a credit card used to sound like?

Out came the manual imprinter machine (often called the "Knuckle Buster"!). The cashier would lay your card down, put a piece of layered carbon paper over it, and aggressively slide that heavy handle back and forth. KA-CHUNK, KA-CHUNK! Then, you had to wait while they physically looked up your card number in a giant booklet of stolen/expired cards!

Our newest Tech Concierge, Riegel, recently enjoyed a milkshake with fellow Tech Concierge Eisenbrown and resident Helen.

Many smartphones come out of the box with ringtones that sound like gentle chimes or soft harps. That is great for a quiet office, but not so great if you are watching TV, running the vacuum, or out in the garden!
If you find yourself constantly missing calls from family or the doctor, you might not just need more volume you might need a different sound.

The Quick Fix:
1️⃣ Open your phone’s Settings.
2️⃣ Tap on Sounds (or "Sounds & Vibration").
3️⃣ Select Ringtone and pick something longer and louder!

(Pro-Tip: Choosing a "Classic Telephone" ringing sound often cuts through background noise much better than a musical tune!) ☎️

Today, we carry our entire music library in our pockets and listen on tiny, wireless Bluetooth speakers. But do you remember the majesty of the Console Stereo?

It wasn’t just a radio; it was a six-foot-long, 200-pound piece of fine wooden cabinetry! 🎮 Happy National Video Game Day!

When most people think about gamers, older adults probably aren’t the first group that comes to mind. But maybe they should be.

Adults over 50 now represent nearly a third of U.S. gamers, and nearly half of Americans in their 60s and 70s play video games every week. Even among adults in their 80s, more than one-third are gaming regularly.

And they’re not just playing for fun.

Please join us in welcoming Lanyah Eisenbrown to The Smarter Service team! 🎉

Lanyah joins us as a Technology Concierge and will be supporting residents at BHI Senior Living’s The Towne House and Prairie Landing communities in Fort Wayne, IN, two of our amazing community partners.

With a background in cybersecurity, cybercrime, and hands-on IT support, Lanyah brings strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and a passion for helping others. Through her experience supporting students, faculty, and staff with technology challenges, she discovered how rewarding it can be to make technology feel less intimidating and more accessible.

She’s excited to help older adults build confidence with technology, stay connected, and get more out of the devices and tools they use every day.

When she’s not helping others navigate technology, you’ll likely find her gaming, keeping up with the latest tech trends, or building in The Sims 4.

We’re excited to have Lanyah on board and look forward to the impact she’ll make for residents at The Towne House and Prairie Landing.
