North Mankato Police Investigating Homicide

On Saturday, May 23rd, 2026, at approximately 11:03 p.m., officers from the North Mankato Police Department were dispatched to the area of Pleasant View Drive and Willow Lane following reports of gunshots in the area. A short time later, officers received additional information that a passenger vehicle had crashed into a townhome on Willow Trail.

Upon arrival, officers located a 17-year-old male inside the vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers removed the victim from the vehicle and immediately initiated lifesaving measures. The victim was transported by ambulance to Mayo Clinic Health System-Mankato, where he was later pronounced deceased.

The identity of the victim will be released at a later time pending notification of family members.

Investigators do not believe this was a random incident and there is no known threat to the public at this time.

Investigators are asking residents in the Pleasant View Drive, Northridge Drive, and surrounding neighborhoods to review any available home surveillance footage for a silver 2010 Chevrolet Impala that may have been observed traveling through the area.

Anyone with information related to this incident or the vehicle is encouraged to contact the North Mankato Police Department at 507-625-7883 and ask to speak with Lt. Brian Gangelhoff.

The North Mankato Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Nicollet County Sheriff’s Office, Mankato Police Department, MN River Valley DTF, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

The investigation remains ongoing.
