Many of us working with diet to regain health track the markers we can measure — CRP, lipid panels, liver enzymes, kidney function. We celebrate when inflammation drops, when metabolic numbers normalize, when the body begins doing what we hoped it would. That part of the story is well understood. What’s less talked about is what often happens next. When the body stabilizes, the emotions it once had to suppress finally surface — and this is a sign of healing, not regression. This morning I’m reflecting on the power of belief and the way healing begins long before we notice it. Every culture has understood this — whether through qi, prana, mana, compassion practice, or the simple act of slowing down. Beyond the Relaxation Response by Herbert Benson, MD, talks about what all of these traditions share: a shift into calm that opens the door to clarity and healing.
