👩‍⚕️I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to keep your providers updated on your medication and supplements lists.

👩‍⚕️I also want to remind everyone that medication related problems might not become obvious right away and often times, instead of adjusting therapy or addressing drug-related problems, patients get prescribed more medications.

Two huge for-profit industries. Operating under different regulations.

Yes, supplements have advantages and disadvantages.
Yes, you can take “too much” supplements.
Yes, they can be beneficial or harmful.
Yes, they can have side effects (including serious side effects).
Yes, they can interact with prescription medications and other supplements.
Yes, quality matters, including storage conditions (climate or temperature controlled).

And, no, “natural” does not mean safe.

Patient safety is our top priority and it depends on us every single day.

Most people don’t see or might not even know about the clinical work we do behind the scenes to prevent serious medication interactions and errors.

This work starts with reviewing patient’s chart - medication history, conditions, allergies, labs.
Often times counseling happens before the medication reaches the patient, to educate them and to encourage them to take charge of their own health.

Many times the ordered medication never gets dispensed and it gets changed to a safer alternative due to dangerous drug or disease interactions, through our close and collaborative work with physicians and other health professionals.

And this clinical work almost always involves dealing with insurance problems, prior authorizations and medication costs.

From catching dosing mistakes to wrong directions to wrong formulations, we make sure everything is accurate and safe.

Remember that medication related problems are not always obvious and often overlooked.

Choose your pharmacist wisely.

Join us and call your Senators to support the bill led by Senators Warren and Hawley

Today my colleagues joined me in campaign and called our Senators asking them to support the Break Up Big Medicine Act.

This legislation will prevent insurers and PBMs from owning pharmacies and physician practices and will break these corporations who currently decide when and where patients get care.

PBMs play a significant negative role in our healthcare system, and the Break Up Big Medicine Act will address critical issues such as cost transparency, fair practices, payer-mandated practice models (also knowns as “white bagging”) and will stop the PBM industry’s consolidation and vertical integration that currently exists.

It only takes few minutes! We reached out to Senator Adam Schiff and Senator Alex Padilla to support this legislation as it is crucial for ensuring transparency, fairness, and better access to care for patients.

1️⃣ Call 202-224-3121, say your state to be connected to the correct office.
2️⃣ State that you are calling to support the Break Up Big Medicine Act (S.3822) and ask for their support.

This legislation will prevent insurers and PBMs from owning pharmacies and physician practices and will break these corporations who currently decide when and where patients get care.

I am an advanced pharmacist practitioner in CA and community pharmacies, specifically independent pharmacy practices, are hanging on by thread – the unfair business practices of PBMs contributed to closures of hundreds of pharmacies in last couple of years in CA (thousands nationwide) and more continue to close every day. Pharmacists were forced to take out personal loans after being in practice for decades, go without a salary themselves to sustain their practices, and eventually were forced to close their doors.

PBMs play a significant negative role in our healthcare system, and the Break Up Big Medicine Act will address critical issues such as cost transparency, fair practices, payer-mandated practice models (also knowns as “white bagging”) and will stop the PBM industry’s consolidation and vertical integration that currently exists.

I urge all my colleagues, my physician friends and other healthcare professionals to join campaign and call their Senators and ask them to support the Break Up Big Medicine Act.
