We keep saying “find your people,” as if they exist somewhere fully assembled and you just haven’t walked into the right room.

When you were younger, it worked that way, with proximity, repetition, unstructured time, all of it handed to you for free.

Midlife quietly took the scaffolding away. So belonging becomes something you build now, deliberately, one reach at a time. It’s slower. It’s more exposed. And it’s the only version that’s actually yours to make. You’re not too late.

The loneliness of midlife is not the loneliness of an empty life. It is the loneliness of being surrounded by people who love who you have been, while you are quietly grieving that you cannot be her anymore.

You have not lost your mind. You have outgrown the version of yourself that fit into their world.

Save this for the next quiet week.

Your people are not found. They’re built.

Nobody arrives pre-assembled as your person, as your people. They become that through repetition, through being the one who shows up again, through the slow accumulation of things nobody witnessed but the two of you.

Episode 59 lands this Sunday afternoon: “Your People Are Not Found. They’re Built.”

The part nobody warns you about: when you stop editing, your social circle shifts. Some people leave. That is not a sign you got it wrong.

The women who stay after you stop performing are the only ones who were ever actually there.

Being liked is a performance you control. You choose what to show — the warmth, the competence, the polished version. None of it is fake. It’s just selected.

Being known is the other thing. It’s letting someone see the unfinished you, the one you’d never have led with, and not knowing what they’ll do with it. It’s the risk the capable woman avoids most. And eight decades of research on human lives says it’s the thing that matters most.

Hi, I’m Carla. I coach women in all stages of midlife. My work weaves functional medicine, somatic sex & relationship coaching, and spiritual wisdom to support women through perimenopause, menopause, and the unfolding of a fully embodied second act.

But this season asks for more than protocols. It asks for intimacy with the body, reverence for change, and room to listen for what’s emerging.

I help women navigate that transformation into the life they were meant to live.

If this sounds like something you’d like to explore, there’s a space on my calendar just for you.
