Moments That Matter

Each week, Sonci and a close friend, Cheri, make the trip to Oakley from Hays for Sonci’s treatment. While the weekly journey could easily feel monotonous, they’ve turned it into something meaningful. They arrive early to her appointment, making it a point to grab a meal from the cafeteria.

What started as a simple routine has grown into something much more. Over time, they’ve built connections with the staff, often enjoying lunch together, laughing, and sharing stories. They’re no longer just visitors passing through, they’ve become part of the group, bringing light and positivity to the space each week.

Cheri shared, “I’ve been to many facilities and hospitals, and this is the most rural one I’ve visited. I’m amazed by the kindness and compassion we’ve experienced here. I just love this place.”
Sonci added, “We’ve made friends in so many departments and with other patients, too. Everyone is so kind, and they remember you each time we come in. That makes it feel personal.”

Moments like these remind us that even in challenging situations, there is room for connection, friendship, and joy. Sonci and Cheri show us that it’s not just about the destination, but how you choose to show up along the way.

In honor of National Speech Month we would like to recognize one of our Speech Stars!

Wittyn is described as a “kind‑hearted, wild little man who loves learning and playing and is a very determined little boy.” Before starting speech therapy, Wittyn’s mother would say that his biggest challenge was being understood—and the frustration that came when others said, “I don’t understand you.”

Today, that story looks very different. 💙 His mom shares that, “Everyone is telling Witt now how well he is talking! He has so much more confidence talking to adults. He will even talk at story time in church. He doesn’t hide behind me when someone is trying to talk to him, he has a conversation with no frustration!”
What’s been the biggest surprise of this process for mom? “How much confidence he has gained!” She says his growth has been so exciting that he even encourages his little sister to use her best speech too."

To parents who are unsure about starting speech therapy, mom says it best:
“DO IT! Miss Hannah is wonderful! Speech is something you use for the rest of your life! You talk everyday – might as well give your child the best chance possible for their future.”

We’re so proud of you, Witt! 🌟
