In Chinese medicine, it is not advised to drink cold beverages. Not even in the heat! Why?

Let’s talk about your “digestive fire” 🔥

Think of your digestive system as a warm cauldron, constantly simmering to break down everything you consume. When you dump an ice-cold drink into it, you essentially throw a bucket of ice water directly onto that fire.

This means your body has to work overtime to create MORE fire to heat that liquid up to your core temperature.

Over time, constantly putting out your digestive fire can lead to:

➡️ Bloating & sluggish digestion (the food just sits there)
➡️ Low energy (your body is wasting Qi just trying to stay warm)
➡️ Internal dampness (which can show up as brain fog, heavy limbs, or fluid retention)

So, how do you stay cool in the summer without the ice?

Opt for warm or room-temperature water, or sip on naturally cooling herbal teas like chrysanthemum, mint, or dandelion root. They help clear summer heat from the inside out, without shocking your system.

Are you team iced-everything, or are you ready to give room-temp a try? Drop a 🧊 or a 🫖 in the comments 👇

Are you breathing right now? Take note.

The Lung Meridian, however, is about way more than breathing. It’s the foundation of your vitality, immunity, and boundaries. In TCM, it’s known as the meridian that says “yes” to life. When it’s out of balance, we hold onto the old air (and the old grief), making it impossible for the new to enter.

Are you saying “yes” to life? If you’re ready to answer that question and transform your relationship with your body and health, join us this fall in the Living Meridian Course with .

This course is a 6-month hybrid training for acupuncturists, yoga teachers, healing arts practitioners, and devoted seekers. Held in Ojai, CA at Wild Qi campus.

Midsummer medicine ☀️ We’re keeping doors open and energy flowing at Wild Qi this July.

As summer brings Yang energy — full of heat, outward expression, and high momentum — it becomes essential to intentionally nourish our Yin. We’ve built this month’s calendar to help you fully expand while anchoring and cooling your system to find seasonal balance.

Whether you’re looking to deeply reset in the clinic, build strength in the studio, or restore with a cold plunge and sauna session, we’re here to support you.

At Wild Qi, we keep our cold plunge at 50 degrees intentionally.

Ultra-cold extremes are often counterproductive for women. Because the female endocrine system is highly sensitive, that intense shock can trigger a prolonged cortisol spike — disrupting metabolism, thyroid function, and hormones.

For women in reproductive years, cold tolerance drops even lower during the luteal phase, making the nervous system extra vulnerable to thermal stress.

From a Chinese Medicine perspective, cold plunges are usually not recommended for women in reproductive years because we always want to keep the uterus warm.

So why do we have a cold plunge at Wild Qi? It turns out, women don’t need freezing cold to activate brown fat or get that dopamine hit from cold plunging. The sweet spot for female physiology: 50–59°F for 2–3 minutes.

It’s cool enough to trigger the mood boost and metabolic lift, but gentle enough to protect your hormones.

As always, listen to your own body — because we’re all different!
