This is a hard truth but also an empowering truth. We do not have to stay stuck in what life handed us through how we were raised. It is our responsibility to grow up as she says but I would reframe it to our beautiful privilege to make a different way forward and within.

Don’t stay stuck.

Oh, the battle of the mind. It is discouraging. But….
You don’t have to fight it alone.

1️⃣ 𝐂𝐚𝐭𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐡𝐢𝐳𝐢𝐧𝐠 (It is the habit of treating a possible bad outcome as if it were already certain). You lie awake at 2 a.m. rehearsing a disaster that has not happened.

It sounds like this in your head:
• What if I fail the test tomorrow?
• They will hate me if I say the wrong thing
• This headache is probably something terrible
• I will never recover if this goes wrong
• Everything is going to fall apart

2️⃣ Where the word came from
In 1962 Albert Ellis gave this habit a name. He called it catastrophizing. Aaron Beck later made it a core part of cognitive therapy. Ellis said he borrowed the core idea from the Stoics.
• Ellis saw people turning maybes into certainties
• Beck showed how the pattern feeds anxiety
• The Stoics noticed it centuries before psychology existed
• Naming it helps you catch it in the moment

3️⃣ What it looks like each day
Your mind builds a worst case and then lives inside it. The body reacts as if the story were real. You spend energy solving problems that do not exist. The real moment passes unnoticed while you fight ghosts.
• A delayed text becomes a ruined friendship
• A small mistake becomes a career ender
• A weird symptom becomes a fatal diagnosis
• The present gets crowded out by imaginary futures

4️⃣ How it shows up at night
The room is quiet but your mind is loud. You replay conversations and rewrite endings. You invent tomorrow's catastrophes in vivid detail. Sleep stays out of reach while the stories run.
• The darkness makes the stories feel heavier
• Fatigue lowers the guard against the habit
• Morning usually proves the stories false

The mind tries to protect you by scanning for danger. It evolved to spot lions in the grass, not emails or awkward texts. When it finds a vague threat, it fills in the blanks with the worst case. That survival trick becomes a trap when the danger is only a thought.

Seneca watched this happen in Rome two thousand years ago. He saw people tortured by futures that never arrived. Ellis and Beck gave the pattern a clinical name, but the cure is older than psychology. You step out of the story by returning to what is actually here , breath, floor, light, sound.

Each time you notice the loop, you weaken it. You do not need to stop the thoughts. You only need to see them as thoughts, not prophecies. The gap between fear and fact is where peace lives. You can visit that gap any moment you choose.

5️⃣ Try this today
• Write the feared outcome down, then write the evidence for and against it
• Name the story: 'This is catastrophizing, not reality.'
• Set a timer for five minutes of worry, then stand up and move
• Ask: 'What would I tell a friend who had this thought?'
• Notice one thing in the room right now , a color, a sound, a breath

We suffer more in imagination than in reality. The imagined storm passes; the real sky stays calm.
