🤍For a few years, I felt a growing pull toward an out-of-network, concierge model of care.

It wasn’t because I believed one model was better than another. Insurance-based practices play an important role in healthcare, and I’ve had the privilege of working alongside many exceptional therapists who provide outstanding care in those settings.

But gradually, I realized I was looking for a practice model that more closely reflected my values as a pelvic health physical therapist.

I wanted the freedom to spend more time listening, educating, and treating the whole person. I wanted the flexibility to create truly individualized plans of care based on each patient’s goals rather than the constraints of insurance coverage. Most importantly, I wanted every patient to feel heard, supported, and never rushed. 🤍

Making the transition to an out-of-network practice has allowed me to practice in a way that more deeply aligned with why I became a pelvic health physical therapist in the first place.

I am incredibly grateful for this opportunity, and even more grateful for the patients who choose this model of care because they value personalized, one-on-one care and are investing in their long-term health and well-being. It is a privilege to be part of your journey.

Sincerely,

Dr. Shannon 🤍

đź’« You bring your whole story

When you walk through our doors at Pelvic Wellness Physical Therapy, you don’t just bring your symptoms.

You bring your...
- nervous system
- beliefs about your body
- past healthcare experiences
- life experiences
- relationships
- sexual experiences

You also bring your hopes, fears, and everything you’ve been through along the way in your life journey.

Here at Pelvic Wellness Physical Therapy in Omaha we believe all of it matters.

💫 Our role as clinicians isn’t simply to treat the pelvic floor muscles or check off a list of symptoms.

It’s to meet you where you are—the whole person in front of us—with curiosity, compassion, and without judgment.

Together, we create a space where you can begin to feel more connected to your body and develop a deeper respect for the incredible wisdom of your body.

Because your body isn’t something to fight against or fix.

It’s something to listen to.

Be curious. What is your body telling you? đź’«

✨ Your pelvis isn’t just bones, muscles, fascia, and organs.

Your pelvic experience is shaped by:
👉🏻 Your nervous system state
👉🏻 Hormonal rhythms
👉🏻 Your sense of safety or threat
👉🏻 Emotional experiences
👉🏻 Your history and lived experiences

The pelvis can also hold:
👉🏻 Pain
👉🏻 Shame
👉🏻 Trauma (medical, sexual, physical, emotional, etc)
👉🏻 Cultural silence

At Pelvic Wellness Physical Therapy, we believe exceptional pelvic health care goes beyond treating the tissues.

✨ Our hope is to co-create an environment with you where your whole body, including your nervous system, can feel safe enough to soften, release, and heal.

Your body is brilliant and your nervous system is doing an amazing job of protecting you the best way it knows how— it is not something that is broken or needs to be fixed. We need to help create the conditions where your nervous system feels safe enough to let go.

🌱 Do you suffer from pain in and around the area of your tailbone?

Is it uncomfortable or painful when you:

👉🏻 Sit on hard surfaces?
👉🏻 Sit on soft surfaces?
👉🏻 Get up from a chair?
👉🏻 Drive in your car?
👉🏻 Sit through long work meetings?

If so, you’re not alone—and your tailbone isn’t always the likely culprit.

Tailbone pain (coccydynia) is often related to more than just the tailbone itself.

Tightness, tension, sensitivity or weakness in the pelvic floor muscles and posterior hip musculature can contribute to the symptoms you are experiencing. Stiffness in spine regions above the tailbone such as the lumbar and thoracic spine may also play a role, as restrictions elsewhere in the spine can affect the mobility and function of the tailbone.

A few quick tips that you can begin today if you are experiencing symptoms around your tailbone

✅ Get up and move every 45–60 minutes.

✅ Alternate between sitting and standing while working — consider getting a standing desk

✅ Change your sitting surface throughout the day—consider alternating between your office chair and a large exercise ball - variety is key!

âś… Incorporate regular movement into your daily routine.

Where does pelvic floor therapy fit in the picture of tailbone pain?

At Pelvic Wellness, we take a whole-body approach to identify the factors contributing to your symptoms.

An initial evaluation for these symptoms at our clinic will include:

👉🏻 A detailed history of your symptoms onset
👉🏻 Assessment of spinal, pelvic, and hip mobility and flexibility
👉🏻 Examination of pelvic floor muscle function
👉🏻 Review of your symptoms, posture, and daily habits/routine
👉🏻 Identification of movement patterns that may be contributing to pain

Treatment is then customized to your specific needs with the goal of helping you sit, drive, work, and move more comfortably.

Relief is possible through the right treatment strategies that starts with addressing the root cause, not just the symptoms... this is exactly what we can help you with. 🌱

🌱 Can’t I just skip to treatment? My doctor already diagnosed me.”

We hear this more than you’d think.

Your physician’s role is to rule out anything structurally or medically concerning — and that matters. But once they’ve ruled out the “big and scary” stuff and pointed you toward muscles and nerves, that’s where we take over.

Identifying exactly what’s tight, what’s irritated, and why — that’s not something a diagnosis alone can tell you. It takes a hands-on, unhurried evaluation.

That’s why we take 90 minutes for every initial evaluation. Because your symptoms are unique to you, and your plan should be too.
