Two years in the making! πŸŽΆπŸ’™

With support from Medical Humanities and Arts Program (MHAP) at UCI, we were thrilled to welcome members of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and their Strokestra team back to UCI for an incredible week of training, collaboration, and music-making!

Throughout the week, talented students from UCI Claire Trevor School of the Arts and UCI Symphony Orchestra trained alongside the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra team, learning Strokestra’s innovative methods and strategies for using collaborative music-making to support older adults and their healthcare needs. Under the direction of Dr. Geoffrey Pope, and with the support of clinicians from UCI Health, the intensive training culminated in two very special days of making music together with our patients. 🎻πŸ₯πŸŽΆ

Seeing our patients, musicians, students, and healthcare professionals come together through music was truly inspiringβ€”and this is only the beginning.

We are so excited for the next chapter of this partnership with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and look forward to growing Harmonizing Healing at UCI and expanding the ways we can bring music and healthcare together. πŸ’™πŸ’›

Today, UCI Geriatrics had the wonderful opportunity to present to UCI Health nurses at the new Chao Family Comprehensive Cancer Center and Ambulatory Care in Irvine! πŸ§‘πŸ’™

Our UCI Geriatrics Nursing Symposium brought together our geriatrics team and nursing colleagues for a morning dedicated to advancing age-friendly, person-centered care for older adults across UCI Health.

Throughout the morning, we explored key topics including:

β€’ The 4Ms Framework β€” What Matters, Medication, Mentation & Mobility
β€’ Age-Friendly Health Systems and UCI Health’s age-friendly journey
β€’ Caregivers as Partners in Care Teams (CAP-CT) in the hospital setting
β€’ What Matters Most & Advance Care Planning
β€’ Dementia care and management
β€’ Delirium recognition, prevention & medication considerations
β€’ The importance of self-care for healthcare professionals

We are grateful to our incredible UCI Health nurses for their engagement, thoughtful discussion, and continued commitment to providing exceptional care to older adults. Together, we are helping ensure that every older adult receives care aligned with what matters most to them.

The two-day conference will feature 60+ presenters, oral and experiential sessions, posters, digital presentations, and keynote speakers Emi Ferguson and Brian Harris.
