What if the life you're afraid of missing is actually the one waiting for you after recovery?

Many people facing eating disorder treatment worry about stepping away from work, school, relationships, or daily responsibilities. The fear of "falling behind" can make it difficult to accept the level of care they truly need.

In her latest blog, Quinn Nystrom shares her personal recovery story and the difficult decision to enter higher levels of treatment. What felt like an impossible sacrifice at the time became the foundation for a life she never could have imagined.

Recovery didn't take away her future, it gave her one.

If you or someone you love is struggling, this message is for you: investing time in healing is never wasted time.

Today is World Eating Disorders Action Day.

Eating disorders affect millions of individuals and families, yet many people struggle in silence due to stigma, misunderstanding, or fear of reaching out for help.

Today, we join organizations and advocates around the world in raising awareness, promoting education, and reminding those who are struggling that recovery is possible.

At Center for Change, we believe that healing is possible, hope is real, and no one should have to face an eating disorder alone.

💙 If you or someone you love is struggling, know that help is available.

Glenn’s own words-
I started working at the center for change about 15 years ago
Before I worked for the Center for Change I was a contractor building residential homes. I enjoyed that profession. I would design my homes and take them all the way through completion. I was pretty good at it. It did have its draw back, the economy at the time, different trades, hoping their quality was acceptable, and the final issue was the contractor is the last one to get paid, so you just hoped the job went well. After riding that ride for a while I was ready for something more steady and was driving by the Center for Change on State street. I looked over at the building with a understanding of what great work was being accomplished here. I knew of the Center for Change because a friend of mine worked here, so I was aware of the mission of the Center for Change. A thought came to my mind as I drove by….The thought was “your supposed to be the DPO there”…..DPO what does that even stand for….so I went home and looked it up. It means Department of Plant Operations. Basically keep the building up and running. I could do that I thought. So I put together my resume set up a appointment and went in and met the CFO. He said that was interesting that I had had that thought come to me, because they were just discussing a need for someone to run that department.
It was a perfect fit for me. I love working here and trying to make the life of the patients just a little easier.
So what do I do on my free time….I am very family based. My wife and I have 11 grand kids. They are all under the age of 10. Jen and I love to travel when we can find the time. We love travel that takes us to oceans, waterfalls, and beautiful forests. I also love to help people take a small area in their home and figure out how it can be something amazing when its done.
Side note: I have had a family members struggled with an Eating disorders. If any one reads this who is struggling with a eating disorder. Just remember your wonderful, don’t ever forget that. You deserve to Live, Love Life and be Happy. You are in charge of your destiny.

Sometimes the signs are easy to miss because they can look so “normal” at first. A skipped meal here, guilt after eating there, constantly feeling pressure to look a certain way. Many people struggle silently long before anyone realizes something deeper is going on.

That’s why prevention matters. Honest conversations, compassion, and support can help someone feel less alone before things become overwhelming.

If you recognize these signs in yourself or someone you care about, know that reaching out for help is a brave and meaningful step. You deserve support, healing, and a relationship with food and your body that feels peaceful.

Healing begins with feeling safe, seen, and understood. 💙

At Center for Change, we believe trauma-informed care means meeting each individual with compassion, respect, and empathy - recognizing that every person’s story matters and that healing is never one-size-fits-all.

Recovery is not about “fixing” someone. It’s about creating a supportive environment where trust can grow, voices can be heard, and hope can return.

You are worthy of care that honors your experiences and supports your healing journey.
