A Water Feature May Create More Problems Than Benefits in a Salt Cave

Salt cave design requires careful planning. Adding a water feature without considering humidity, airflow, and the salt aerosol can affect the environment the room is meant to provide.

Salt attracts moisture. When airborne salt particles take on moisture, they can become heavier, clump together, and settle more quickly. Excess moisture can also create ongoing maintenance concerns.

A brine graduation tower has a different purpose and belongs outdoors—not inside a salt room or salt cave. A clean, controlled environment is essential, and adding a continuously wet feature indoors can increase the risk of moisture problems. Extra equipment cannot guarantee that mold will never develop.

One of the biggest mistakes we see in salt room construction is choosing materials simply because they are inexpensive, familiar, or easy to install.

A salt cave is not an ordinary room with salt added to the walls.

During halotherapy, fine salt particles are introduced into the air. Salt can be highly corrosive to metals, and the room must also be designed around temperature, humidity, ventilation, airflow, electrical components, and the halogenerator.

That means every material matters, including the materials you cannot see.

A standard drop ceiling may look acceptable at first, but metal grids and hidden components can be exposed to salt and moisture. Over time, corrosion and deterioration can become serious concerns.
