Osawatomie State Hospital is proud to celebrate 160 years of caring, compassion, and commitment to the people of Kansas.

As we joined the Miami County Fair Parade with this year's theme, "Creating a Lasting Impact," we are honored to reflect on the legacy that has been built since 1866. For 160 years, generations of dedicated employees have made a difference in the lives of patients, families, and our community. Their compassion, resilience, and service continue to leave a lasting impact that reaches far beyond our campus.

We invite everyone to help us celebrate this historic milestone during State Hospital Day on Saturday, November 7, 2026. The event will be open to the public and will offer an opportunity to learn about the hospital's rich history, recognize those who have served, and celebrate the role Osawatomie State Hospital has played in our community for more than a century and a half.

Here's to 160 years of healing, hope, and creating a lasting impact—and to the many years ahead.

Last Tuesday, representatives from Osawatomie State Hospital were honored to attend the ceremonial signing of House Bill 2237 alongside Governor Laura Kelly and Secretary of Administration Adam Proffitt.
This legislation marks an important investment in Kansas' state workforce by expanding the tools available to recruit and retain dedicated public servants. House Bill 2237 increases the maximum hiring, recruitment, and retention bonus from $3,500 to $10,000, giving state agencies greater flexibility to attract and keep talented employees in critical positions.
For Osawatomie State Hospital, this is especially meaningful. As we continue our mission of providing compassionate, high-quality behavioral healthcare to Kansans, this legislation will help us recruit and retain the exceptional professionals who make that mission possible—including nurses, mental health technicians, social workers, and many other essential team members.
We are grateful to Governor Kelly, Secretary Proffitt, the Kansas Legislature, and all those who supported this important initiative. Together, we are strengthening Kansas' behavioral health workforce and investing in the future of patient care.
