William V. Finn Jr., 88, a resident of Oswego passed away at his home on September 3, 2026, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., He was the son of the late William V. and Helen (Barry) Finn Sr. He received his Bachelor's degree from the State University of Oswego and his Master's degree in Education from Syracuse University. He started his teaching career as a Special Education Teacher and retired as the Head of the Reading Department. William retired after 34 years having spent his entire career with the APW School District. Due to his love of Teaching he then worked at the National Grid Energy Center as a Tour Guide at their Edcation Center.

William was a veteran of the United States Army, serving in the early 1960's. He was also a proud Member of the New York State Teacher's Association. He had several hobbies and interests including completing the daily crossword puzzle (in pen), golfing and woodworking. He would spend hours in his shed making things for his family and friends. One of his biggest loves was caring for the numerous Dogs he had over the years. He could always be seen in his neighborhood walking his Dog multiple times per day. William enjoyed spending time with Family and Friends, especially his monthly Lunch Date with close friends. A Special Thank You to Bill Reidy and Sam Amedio for helping make sure he made it to the lunch AND their home visits.

William was also know for his sense of humor, always starting a conversation with a joke. The highlight of each year was his Christmas Gift exchange with his Sister-in-Law, Kay Bradshaw. They would exchange gag gifts for years with each trying to 1-up the other.

Surviving are his wife of 64 years, the former Sally Donovan, and four sons: William (Tonya) Finn of Newark and Gary (Laurie) Finn of Oswego. Robert Finn of Oswego, Daniel Finn of California, four grandchildren, Emily Finn, Katie Finn, Eric Finn and David Finn.

He was predeceased by his grandson, Tyler Finn.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 1:00- 3:00 at the Dowdle Funeral Home with a service to follow.

Joan W. "Corky" Johnson,94, a resident of Oswego passed away on August 29, 2026.

Born in Auburn, She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ellen (Moore) Wallace. She was a graduate of Holy Family School and the St. Joseph's School of Nursing.

She was employed as a nurse at the Mercy Hospital and later retired as a nurse from the Oswego Hospital after 38 years of service.

She was a member of the Oswego Retired Nurses and the St. Joseph's Nurses Alumni. Corky liked to knit, quilt and swim.

Surviving are five children, Susan Stanley of Oswego, Bernard (Elaine) Johnson of Oswego, Michael (Susan) Johnson of Oswego, Daniel (Sandra) Johnson of Brewertown, Kathleen (Bruce) Shafer Jr. of Oswego, ten grandchildren, Sara Stanley , Stephanie Haynes, Nicole Hogan, Michael Johnson Jr., Brian, Steven and Greg Johnson, Patrick, Kaela and Mac Avery Shafer and fourteen great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her husband George Johnson, five sisters, Evelyn Hares, Jean Redmond, Alice Drew, Elizabeth Guy, Marjorie Szakalski and son-in-law, Paul Stanley.


Funeral services will be held on Friday at 10:00 from Christ the Good Shepherd.

Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery.

Nicole Ellen Nicol (Martell), 55, of Oswego, NY passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on August 11, 2026.
Born on July 23, 1971 in Montague, Prince Edward Island, Canada. She was preceded in death by her father, Ernest Martell, and is survived by her mother, Ada Martell (MacInnes) and her brother, Trevor Martell. She graduated from Lower Sackville High School and attended St. Mary's University in Canada.
She was the loving wife of Bruce Nicol, with whom she shared 31 wonderful years of marriage – they were middle school sweethearts, being together for a total of 40 years. She was a devoted mother to Sean and Kyla.
Nicole had a passion for and was a master at cross stitching. She also enjoyed crocheting and several other hand craft hobbies. For the past three years she worked as a cashier at Walmart in Oswego, NY where many of her customers sought her out when they were there. She had a way of distracting younger children so the parents could finish their shopping and be on their way.
We will have a celebration of life on Thursday August 27th between 6 PM and 8 PM at Dowdle Funeral Home in Oswego, NY. Her funeral service will be in Nova Scotia on September 3rd at 11 am, where she was raised and met her husband, Bruce.

Margaret A. "Peg" Mitchelson, 90, a resident of Oswego passed away on August 12, 2026,
Born in Sterling, She was the daughter of the late Carl and Beulah (Wallace) Longley and graduated from Red Creek High School.
She was a homemaker who loved painting,camping and going to garage sales. She volunteered for the Oswego High Marching Band, was a member of the Ladies of Elks Auxiliary and a former member of the Oswego Center Methodist Church. She loved Harborfest and had a spot at Breitbeck Park called Mitchelson's corner.
Surviving are her three daughters, Kim (Steve) Perras of Oswego, Susan (David) Aubertine, Brenda (Steve) Bohall of Oswego, a son, Fred Mitchelson of Oswego, a brother, Russell Longley of Martville, eleven grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband Harold "Hank" Mitchelson, two sisters, Mary Axtell, Rinda Argetsinger, three grandchildren, Angela Zagame, Steve Perras, Katielyn Aubertine and a brother in law, Earl "Oakie" Mitchelson.
The family will receive friends at the Dowdle Funeral Home on Monday, August 24 from 4:00-6:00 with a service to follow the hours.

Michael Joseph King, 68, of Binghamton, passed away on July 9, 2026, at the Grand Nursing
Facility in Chittenango, NY, after an illness of several months.
Michael was born in Ireland Army Hospital, Fort Knox, Kentucky on July 25, 1957, the son of Sgt. Frank E. and Rita (Hibbert) King.
Mr. King was a graduate of St. Paul's Academy and attended Oswego High School. He later
received his GED from Broome Community College. Mr. King worked for several years at
Lander Corporation in Binghamton where he was a shipping supervisor and a union steward.
He eventually relocated to Colorado Springs, Colorado where he worked in construction, was
proprietor of Future Now Personal Computers, and trained as a chef. In 2005, Mr. King was
ordained as an Interfaith Minister in Colorado. As a result of a motor vehicle accident, he was
disabled and unable to continue his career.
Mr. King enjoyed music, cooking, and drumming. He took great pleasure in spending time with
his family, especially his grandchildren and his nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter, Andrea King Smiri of Madison
Wisconsin; his brother, David W. King of Oswego; his brother-in-law, Daniel Hanley; and two
infant nephews, Craig Hanley and Owen King.
Mr. King is survived by 5 grandchildren: Usamah, Khalid, Ammar, Nesreen and Yasmeen Smiri,
all of Madison, Wisconsin and 2 great grandchildren, Isabella and Zainab Stopzynski, also of
Madison; his sister, Barbara Hanley, Oswego, NY; two brothers, Robert (Carol) of Montpelier,
VT and James (Nancy) of Mattydale, NY; and sister-in-law Linda King of Oswego. He is also
survived by several nieces and nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the charity of one's choice. Calling hours will be at Dowdle Funeral home, 154 East Fourth St. Oswego, New York on August 22, 1-3 PM.
Interment will be at St. Paul’s Cemetery, August 22, 10:30 AM.

Charlotte A. Cahill, 83, a resident of the Oswego area passed away on August 8, 2026. She was born in Fulton, N.Y. and attended Fulton Schools. She was employed with Flexo Wire and later retired from Sealright after 25 years of service. She enjoyed spending time with her granddaughter, crossword puzzles and camping with her husband Surviving are her son, Robert "Bobby" Cahill of Oswego, granddaughter, Brianna Michelle Cahill, ex-daughter-in-law Jennifer Lewis and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert P. "Roxie" Cahill in 2006 and her daughter, Michelle Ingleston in 2022. Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours. Arrangements are in the care of the Dowdle Funeral Home.
