James F. Britton passed away on June 15, 2026 at University Hospital. James was born in Syracuse to the late William and Mary Britton Fitzgerald. He was predeceased by his parents and step-father Charles Fitzgerald. James was educated at St. John's parochial school and graduated from Oswego High School in 1961.
Jim worked at Auxiliary Services at SUNY Oswego for 41 years. He was a familiar face who could be seen walking in Oswego almost daily for decades and attending local festivals and concerts.
He had a lifelong interest in trains of any kind, going on train excursions to the Adirondacks, visiting Steamtown in PA and tinkering with his many model trains and airplanes. He had 2 local friendships. Sara Cole and her late husband Bob and Betty Leonard and her late husband Mario who looked out for him through his last years.
Funeral services are private and at the convenience of friends. There are no calling hours.

Phyllis Jane Allen
On June 10, 2026, Phyllis Jane Allen, 76, a resident of Cambridge, MA, passed away at Boston’s Massachusetts General Hospital.
Born on April 30, 1950, in Oswego, NY to Edwin M. “Jiggs” and Doris Brown Allen, Phyllisgraduated from the Campus School at Oswego State in 1965 and Oswego Catholic High School
in 1968.
An excellent student, she entered Vassar College from which she graduated in 1972. Her degree was in psychology, the academic love of her life, leading to her career as a psychologist.
Her graduate studies were at the New School for Social Research in New York City with a second Master’s degree in psychology from Oswego State in 2001 during a sabbatical year.
Her studies at the New School led to her living on Manhattan’s Upper West Side for almost 40 years, and to her career as a psychologist for the New York City Public School District. There,
she helped thousands of students and their parents by assessing whether and what special needs a student may have and then developing and arranging placement for services.
Phyllis loved New York City and embraced every experience it offered. She considered it her home place even after she moved to Cambridge, MA to be near her sister Elisabeth “Liz” Cody
and her family, particularly Liz’s son, David, with whom she had a special relationship.
Phyllis had many talents and interests, from painting, to acting, to exploration. Her trips took her to Europe, especially archeological digs in Italy, to Egypt, to Greece, to Russia, to China, to
working sailing adventures as well to seeing the United States.
Every summer she returned to Oswego’s Ramona Beach where her family had a camp on Lake Ontario where she enjoyed swimming, the sunsets, other campers, especially the “Ranalli girls”
next door, as well as her family, particularly her mother and her nieces and nephew where she engaged in countless card and scrabble games, conversation and storytelling.
Phyllis was a favorite aunt who was well-loved by her nieces, nephew and grand nieces and nephews. Her visits were always well-anticipated and welcomed. She had a knack for bringing
the exact right craft, game, book, other gift or treat and then engaging with each as well as with their many friends, resulting in so many joyous times.
Phyllis was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt and friend. She is survived by her sister Liz Cody of Center Harbor, NH; her brother John (Ann) Allen of Oswego, NY; her brother-in-law Alan Cody
of Newton, MA; her nephew David Cody of East Boston, MA; her niece Katie (Brian) Bresnan and their children Madeline, John and Nora Bresnan; her niece Emily (Joe) Amendola of Norwood, MA and their children Joey, Ryan and Steven; and her niece Caroline (Terence) Kane of Washington, DC and their children Sinead and Emmet.
The family wishes to thank Phyllis’ doctors as well as the nurses at the Massachusetts General Hospital for the wonderful care they provided her as well as for the kindnesses they provided her family.
On Monday, June 22, 2026, there will be a calling hour beginning at 10 a.m. at the Hall Newman Center at Oswego State, with the funeral Mass to immediately follow. Burial will then be at St. Peter’s Cemetery on East River Road, Oswego, NY.

Howard “John” McLymond
With saddened hearts, we announce the passing of Howard "John " McLymond, 69, longtime resident of Hannibal NY, on February 19th, 2026 after struggling for years with chronic illnesses.
He will be missed by many and leaves behind a legacy of being quick-witted, humble, stubborn as an ox, and for being one of the most generous and kind people one could have ever met.
John was predeceased by his mother, Esther Anne (née Rice) Boyce in 1992 and his father, Howard R. McLymond in 2023, both of Mexico, NY. John was born and raised in Mexico, NY by
his father, where he was an active participant in Little League Baseball, enjoyed snowmobiling and was engaged in safety trainings for the community. He attended Mexico Academy Central
Schools during which he was a valued member of the wrestling team. John graduated with the class of 1974.
John was employed at Weber's Dairy Farm in Mexico, NY, followed by working for Goldberg's Furniture in Oswego, NY where he was a delivery person. John eventually was employed at
Sealright / Huhtamaki for 23 years until he medically retired. John was reliable and consistent as a person and as an employee.
John was an avid reader specifically of science fiction, he enjoyed doing crosswords, collecting recipes, and was a fan of The NY Giants football team. He enjoyed feeding and watching birds
and was an enthusiastic hunter which he would do yearly with friends and family as his health allowed.
In 1976 John was married to Debbi (née Barney) McLymond and despite separating and eventually divorcing, they remained life long friends and both families welcomed each other and
celebrated those bonds that were forged and continue to this day. Both families celebrate holidays, birthdays and other family milestones together and together grieve his passing.
John is survived by his 4 children, 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Andrew John (Catrina) McLymond and their children Mia and Andrew John II of NC, Brooke McLymond and
her daughter Ryleigh Lembeck of Oswego, NY. Colene McLymond and her children Alyssa (Miguel Gomez,) Rafael, Noah and Natalia. Two great grandchildren, Emilia and Andréas Gomez-McLymond of FL. Howard John Patrick (Heather) McLymond and their children Caiden, Zaiden, Howard Sean Patrick and Avery of OH.
John is survived by his brother Robert M. McLymond, sister Gail A. (Billy) Stevens, and nephew Christopher (Diana) Stevens of Palermo, NY. Sister Lori L. (Erwin) Sawyer of Oswego, NY, nephews Eric (Lauren) Sawyer of Lockport, NY and Erwin (Shaina) Sawyer of Hannibal, NY.
John is also survived by his sister Lynn Boyce of Oswego, NY.
Besides his siblings, children, grandchildren and nephews, John leaves behind great nephews and nieces, many cousins and some other very special family members and friends. Calvin and
Donna Fellows, Tara and Trisha Barney as well as Erika and Revé Myers all remained close to

“Uncle Howie” and enjoyed spending time with him and having free reign of his house as teens.
As long as the furniture was “moved back inside” before he got home from work, there weren't many questions asked.
John was also like family to Marissa McLymond, sister of his children Andrew, Brooke and Colene. John was a surrogate grandfather figure for their nephew, Logan Bort. John is also
survived by longtime neighbor and friend Daniel Moore of Hannibal, NY.
John will be remembered for never finding a pair of gloves or box he didn't have a future use for.
He was a “collector” of many objects, but he was genuinely a collector of friends, and honorary family members due to his kind soul, loyal heart, and never-ending dedication to those he truly
loved.
The family would like to thank Chuck Burger, The Fulton Police Department, Menter and Dowdle Funeral Home, who handled arrangements, for their compassion, care and preservation
of dignity through this process.
The family extends their invitation to a graveside service and burial that will be held on June 26, 2026 at 11:30 am in The Village of Mexico Cemetery, which is located on Academy St. in
Mexico NY, followed by a Celebration of Life at the VFW Mexico Post 369 located at 5930 Scenic Ave, Mexico NY From 4 pm to 8pm.

Reta Elizabeth Stanley, 78, a longtime resident of Liverpool, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 12, 2026, at her home, surrounded by loved ones.
Born in Oswego, she was the daughter of the late Paul and Rita (Sadler) Stanley. She graduated from Oswego Catholic High School, Class of 1965, where she made many lifelong friends. She
then earned a bachelor's degree from D’Youville University in Buffalo in 1969.
Reta worked as a supervisor for 20 years at the New York State Office of Children and Family Services before retiring in 2018. She also previously worked for Onondaga County's Department of Social Services and taught at Bryant & Stratton College.
She was an avid bridge player, actively participated in local political groups, and was a voracious reader. She enjoyed spending time watching sunsets by the water with her dogs at Breitbeck Park
in Oswego. Charismatic, funny, and a genuine friend to all, she will be deeply missed.
Surviving her are her niece, Maggie Dunsford; Maggie's partner, Jonathon Mecomber; her sister, Mary Ann (Stanley) Dunsford, all of Syracuse; her niece, Sara Stanley, of Winston-Salem, NC; her sister-in-law, Susan (Johnson) Stanley, of Oswego; and her great-nephews, Gavin and Hudson. She also leaves behind her dear friend of many years, Katherine Collins, and her beloved dog, Randy.
She was predeceased by her parents; her brother, Paul Stanley; her brother-in-law, Edward Dunsford; and her five other dogs: Christy, Dusty, Kaylee, Queenie, and Precious.
Calling hours will be held at Dowdle Funeral Home on Thursday, June 18, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 19, at 10:00 a.m. at Christ the Good Shepherd Church.
Burial will be in St. Paul's Cemetery.
A celebration of Reta’s life will follow the burial services.

Reta E. Stanley, a former resident of Oswego passed away on June 12 at her home in Liverpool.

Jacob "Larry" Vogel Jr., 80, a resident of Oswego passed away on May 26, 2026 at his home.
Born in Farmville, Virginia, He was the son of the late Jacob and Hulda (Schalow) Vogel Sr.
He received his Bachelor's Degree in Sociology from the University of Virginia.
He was employed with Stone & Webster and later retired from the Home Depot in Ithaca.
Mr.Vogel was a veteran of the United States Navy serving from 1968-1970.
He loved spending time with his cats, watching the Business Channel, birdwatching and following the weather.
He is survived by his wife of forty-five years, the former Patricia Wilson, his stepson, Jesse O'Day of Oswego, two sisters, Mary Moncure and Brenda Vogel.
He was predeceased by his sister, Julia Oertel.

Francis A. "Frank" Bouchard, 78, a resident of Oswego passed away on April 27, 2026.
Born in Oswego, he was the son of the late Paul and Carmen (Suarez) Bouchard. He graduated from the Oswego High School, attended SUNY Oswego and received his Master's degree from Syracuse University.
He taught Chemistry at G. Ray Bodley in Fulton and was a School Psychologist at the Oswego Middle School and the Oswego High School. He also taught courses at SUNY Oswego.
Frank was a longtime member of the Ancient Order of the Hibernians and a member of the Elk's #271. He enjoyed woodworking, was a film buff, loved reading, was a great pool player, and was an avid Yankees fan.
He was a beautiful human who always saw the beauty in others. He was and is deeply loved and admired for his genuine kindness, generosity, brilliant sense of humor, and his ability to brighten everyone's day. When asked how he was doing, he was known for saying "a lot better now that you're here."
Surviving are his children, Joshua Bouchard of Tigard, Oregon, Danielle Bouchard and fiancé Daniel Rhodes of Greensboro, North Carolina, and his partner, Tara Trovato.
He was predeceased by his sister, Paula Bouchard.
Funeral services are private and at the convenience of the family.

Viola M. Kunzwiler, 94, a former resident of Oswego, passed away peacefully on April 21, 2026, with both daughters by her side, at Bethany Health Care in Framingham MA.

Born in Scriba, She was the daughter of the late Joseph and Phenia (Seeley) Hammond and was a graduate of the Oswego High School.

She was employed by the City of Oswego in the Vital Statistics Department for ten years and retired as the Assistant Manager of the Marine Midland Bank after twenty years of employment.

Viola was a life time member of the Scriba Historical Society. She spent many years researching the genealogy of the family and was more than happy to share the wealth of her knowledge. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, knitting, and reading.

Surviving are her two daughters, Teresa Kunzwiler of Massachusetts, Connie (Jack) Simmons of Oswego, a grandson, Brian (Emily) Castle of Syracuse and several nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, Robert Kunzwiler, four sisters, Inez Ricci, Martha Attwood, Marguerite Wyman and Dawn Hammond and three brothers, Francis "Sid" Hammond, Kenneth and Charles Hammond.

Calling hours will be Sunday, April 26, 2026 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm, at Dowdle Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be at Christ the Good Shepherd on Monday, April 27, 2026 at 11:00 am.

Janet A. Upcraft, age 90, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2026.

Born in Oswego on December 12, 1935; she resided in Scriba her whole life as the daughter of the late Edgar and Lucille (Robarge) DeGroff and was a graduate of the Oswego High School.

She was employed at the Oswego Sewing factory in her younger years and later worked for the Oswego City School District, at which she retired from after many years of service.

Janet was a member of the United Baptist Church as well as a member of T.O.P.S Club. She loved life and was known to enjoy knitting, sewing, gardening and anything in the kitchen as she could always make a great meal and her desserts were well loved throughout her family. In her retirement she found joy in her flower garden while keeping her lawn pristine. She will be remembered for her sense of humor, sass, and wit while having fun and joking with friends and family.

She is survived by her four children, son; Donald, and his wife Karen Upcraft of Hannibal, daughter; Deborah, and her husband Richard Allen of Webster, son; Daniel Upcraft, and his partner James of Oswego, daughter; Daneen, and her husband David Canale of Scriba, and her ex- husband; Dean Upcraft of Scriba. Altogether she is survived also by ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by her brother, Howard DeGroff; who she enjoyed fishing with and her beloved dog, Baby.

The family would also like to thank her many caregivers; Dawn Marie, Christine, Elaine, and Cathy for the wonderful care they provided to Janet over the years.

Funeral services are to be private at the convenience of the family and there will be no calling hours at this time. A celebration of life will be decided at a later date and time.
