Women deserve education. They deserve to feel empowered. đŸ’ȘđŸŒ They deserve the best birth possible.

It was a BUSY day back in the office after our big annual family vacation! Got any guesses for how many needles I went through today? 🙃

Better to be safe than sorry! 😉 Especially when sitting for a while or sleeping in a different bed, I’d rather be prepared with all of the feel-good stuff (and then be pleasantly surprised when I only use half of it, like this time!) to self-treat any aches and pains.

When you travel, what are your go-to must-haves?

We had plenty of space, so I brought all sorts of goodies! 🙃 Usually I just recommend cups and a tennis ball—easy to use and they don’t take up much space!

My girls were playing with face paint, and I opted for a “tattoo” instead of a tiger or butterfly face. 😂

C said that I wasn’t allowed to peek but promised that I’d love it đŸ€© And I do!

Anyone who follows along here or has seen me in the clinic knows I love dry needling and all of the hands-on ways to help people feel better. đŸ€—

But if we really think about it, what is the root cause of the tightness? Is it stress? Is it posture? Is it a muscle imbalance with weaknesses? An injury? A combination of things?

Sometimes we can’t fully fix the root cause (like if you can’t change the physical demands of your job or the wear and tear it’s placed on your body over the years), but if we truly want to resolve symptoms and keep them away, we need to consider the root cause.

That’s why I strive to provide well-rounded care and why I specifically talk about stress with almost every patient. Many of us are juggling a lot—and we hold onto that stress, whether it’s in our neck and shoulders, jaw, pelvic floor, etc. It can present as headaches and migraines, aches and pains, pelvic floor problems, and more.

What do you do for your stress? Thankfully, there are sooo many great options out there to calm your nervous system!

I went to the game last night with my parents, brothers, and one of my girls
and boy, was it fun! Beautiful weather, great game, and core memories made đŸ„°

From my PT brain though— I couldn’t help but think that stadiums, amusement parks, concerts, etc. definitely don’t help people hydrate. 💩 As someone who tries to drink lots of water and encourages others to do the same for their bladder, bowel and overall health, it was hard to stay hydrated for over $6 per bottle of water! It would’ve been easier to opt for a different beverage for just a little more đŸ’” (especially when my daughter was begging for all of the fun things 🙃) but my body appreciates that hydration choice today!

Thankful for moments and memories like this ❀⚟

A lot of women have complaints after having a baby (ie. a weak core, pain with intimacy, back pain, urine leaks, heaviness/prolapse, diastasis, etc.) and they just assume that’s normal once they’re a mom.

But it’s not! And PT can help with all of them! đŸ™ŒđŸŒ You don’t even have to choose just one to fix! 😉

I know this phrase is probably said in an innocent way, trying to encourage parents who are at their wits’ end. But the reality is that only about 15% of kids “grow out” of bowel and bladder issues each year.

It may seem like just an inconvenience if an 8 year old is wetting the bed. But what happens if that 8 year old continues to grow, but not “out of it?” What happens to their self-esteem as they become a 10 year old? What if they become a 12 year old that feels excluded from overnights for fear of wetting the bed? What if they become a 14 year old that dreads camp because that means they’ll be stressing over sleeping away from home, without a parent to help clean up wet sheets? What if they become an adult who has been so chronically constipated throughout their life and has always been running to the bathroom with urinary urgency and frequency—will that impact their life choices?

I don’t share this to be fear-mongering in any way, but to share the reality of bowel and bladder issues. The longer the re**um is overloaded and the bladder is irritated, the more stubborn it is to fix. By addressing bowel and bladder habits, diet and activity, pelvic floor function, core strength, etc. you can start the journey towards healing. It’s not usually a fast, easy journey but it’s worth it.

Why not start? Why wait to “outgrow it?”

This heat & humidty (and the overall forecast) is kind of brutal đŸ„”

If you’ve been feeling tired, having headaches, dealing with constipation, or noticing your bladder seems more irritated than usual, you might need more water. Staying hydrated helps keep your bladder and bowels working their best-and it helps your whole body, too.

Keep that water bottle nearby, especially on these hot days. Your body will thank you! 💩
