Are You Getting Enough Protein?
As we age, getting enough protein becomes more important, not less. Research from the PROT-AGE Study Group suggests that adults over 65 may benefit from consuming about 1.0–1.2 grams of protein per kilogram of body weight daily to help maintain muscle mass, strength, and physical function.
For a 170-pound adult, that's roughly 77–93 grams of protein per day, often more than many people realize.
Instead of focusing only on calories, consider whether you're including quality protein throughout the day. Eggs, fish, Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, beans, nuts, and lean meats can all help support healthy aging.
