A Homecoming Worth Celebrating: Norris Slaton's Journey
At Twin Rivers Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, our greatest success is helping residents return home to the people, places, and moments they love most.
This week, we were honored to celebrate the successful discharge of Norris Slaton as he returned home to his family and community.
According to his wife, Donna Slaton, Norris arrived home Tuesday evening and immediately settled into one of his favorite places his chair with his beloved puppy by his side. The next morning, he was already back to enjoying life's simple pleasures, including breakfast with friends and a visit to his son's home.
Since returning home, Norris has enjoyed rides around the farm, visits from neighbors and friends, and opportunities to see the lake and wildlife he loves. Most importantly, he is back where he wants to be surrounded by family and the comforts of home.
Donna shared her appreciation for the Twin Rivers team, specifically recognizing CNAs Cherry, Maddie, Bree, Destiny, and "T" for the compassionate care they provided throughout Norris's stay. She also expressed gratitude to Logan, Social Services, Cassie, Brittany, and the entire team who helped support both Norris and his family during his rehabilitation journey.
She especially remembered her first interaction with Administrator Robert Epley, who personally arranged for Norris to have a comfortable chair.
"You have no idea how much that meant to us," Donna shared.
Friends and family who visited Norris during his stay frequently commented on the cleanliness of the facility and the cheerful, welcoming attitude of the staff.
Perhaps the greatest compliment came when Donna reflected on her many years caring for elderly family members and visiting healthcare facilities across the region:
"As far as I'm concerned, Twin Rivers is the best nursing and rehabilitation facility I have ever seen. I have cared for parents, aunts, uncles, and many elderly relatives over the years, so I have been to a lot of facilities. Twin Rivers is by far the best facility I have seen."
Donna concluded by saying that if Norris ever needs respite care or specialized services again, Twin Rivers will be their first choice.
At Twin Rivers, stories like Norris's remind us why we do what we do. Every resident deserves compassionate care, dignity, respect, and the opportunity to return home stronger than when they arrived.
We are honored to have been a part of Norris's journey and wish him and Donna many happy days ahead on the farm.
