ADR will be a working ranch for aggressive autistic adults providing a place to learn, & work. (Autism Speaks)

They can be unruly, and hard to control.

1 out of 36 people are born with autism, 62% of those people are males. (Autism Speaks). 68% of people with autism have been aggressive to a caregiver, with 49% to someone else. (Sparks)

“It is estimated 40% of people with autism are nonverbal”, 31% find daily function a challenge, 28% have self-injurious behaviors such as head banging, arm biting, and skin scratching.” 90% of deaths are due to wandering or bolting by the year 14. Most have not been disciplined because “they are autistic and don’t know any better”. They act out because they do not have the words to say what is on their mind. Because of all this, they get left out. Amazing D Ranch wants to take a whole new approach to autism as to what may have already been done for the clients in their past. We will explore all possibilities for the cause of behavioral issues: medical, psychological, and most importantly communication where it is lacking. We are focusing on everything leading to a client lead environment. We want the client to have a say in their future. We recognize this is a major undertaking for clients and staff to get to that point.

You don't have to figure out your child's employment future alone.

The Texas Workforce Commission Vocational Rehabilitation program may be an important resource for families of teens and young adults with disabilities.

Vocational Rehabilitation can help with things like:

💼 Career exploration
💼 Job preparation
💼 Employment skills
💼 Finding and keeping a job

And the conversation can begin before graduation.

If your autistic teen is approaching the transition to adulthood, ask:

“What employment services could my child receive while they are still in school?”

Sometimes knowing who to call is the first step toward finding the right opportunity. 💙

Texas Workforce Commission is the state agency charged with overseeing and providing workforce development services to employers and job seekers of Texas.

October: Disability Employment Awareness Month

💙 What if the right job doesn't exist yet?

That doesn't always mean your autistic adult can't work.

Sometimes it means we need to think differently.

What does your son or daughter do exceptionally well?

Could someone pay them to do it?

Could a small business be built around that skill?

Could an existing business create a position around what they do best?

Maybe the answer isn't finding the perfect job.

Maybe the answer is creating it.

Let's stop looking only at limitations and start looking at possibilities.

Your teenager doesn't have to wait until graduation to start preparing for a career.

Texas SPED Support has resources specifically for students with disabilities and their families as they prepare for life after high school.

One resource to look into is Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS).

These services can help young people explore careers, develop employment skills and prepare for the transition from school to work.

Parents: ask questions early.

Find out what services your teenager may qualify for and how they can begin building a path toward employment while they're still in school.

Preparation today can open doors tomorrow. 💙
