As we wrap up the 2026 Hypertension & Cardiometabolic Conference, we caught up with Brent Egan, MD, to discuss an important and often overlooked issue: why blood pressure control becomes more difficult in older women.

📈 Research shows that systolic blood pressure and pulse pressure tend to rise more with age in women than in men, increasing the risk of heart disease and stroke.

Dr. Egan highlighted practical strategies that can help reduce that risk, including:
✅ Lower sodium intake
✅ Regular physical activity
✅ Healthy weight management
✅ Earlier intervention and prevention
✅ Optimizing medication selection when needed

His message was clear: understanding these unique risk factors gives clinicians an opportunity to improve outcomes before blood pressure reaches more dangerous levels.

🎥 Watch the interview to hear Dr. Egan's insights on the evolving challenges of hypertension management and what healthcare professionals can do to better support their patients.

This morning, Dr. Brent Egan explored one of the most persistent challenges in hypertension management: therapeutic inertia.

The session reviewed why uncontrolled hypertension remains so common despite available therapies and highlighted strategies to improve treatment intensification, patient-provider alignment, and BP goal achievement.

One striking statistic discussed:

👉 It may take years for therapy to be intensified in patients with uncontrolled hypertension.

The lecture also emphasized the growing role of single-pill combinations and patient-centered BP goals in improving outcomes. Thank you Dr. Egan!

We sat down with Carol H. Wysham, MD to discuss two critical topics impacting millions of patients with type 2 diabetes: obesity management and MASH (metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis).

Key takeaway: Up to 70% of patients with diabetes may have MASH, making early screening and intervention more important than ever.

Dr. Wysham also emphasized why treating obesity is essential to improving long-term metabolic health and reducing the burden of diabetes-related complications.

Watch the interview to hear her insights on:
✅ Screening for MASH in clinical practice
✅ Lifestyle and pharmacologic treatment strategies
✅ The evolving role of obesity management in diabetes care

This morning, Dr. Cecilia Low Wang reviewed major updates in diabetes management, obesity medicine, and cardio-kidney-metabolic care.

The session highlighted evolving ADA Standards of Care, the expanding role of GLP-1 receptor agonists and SGLT2 inhibitors, and the growing importance of treating cardiovascular-kidney-metabolic disease as a connected spectrum.

One especially impactful clinical pearl:

👉 Up to 40% of adults with newly diagnosed type 1 diabetes may initially be misclassified as type 2 diabetes.

The lecture also emphasized earlier CGM use, obesity-driven metabolic risk, and the shift toward whole-person diabetes management.

Thank you Dr. Low Wang!
