Excellence in emergency care starts with exceptional teams.

Both St. Joseph's University Medical Center and St. Joseph's Wayne Medical Center have earned the 2026 Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Lantern Award, one of the highest honors an emergency department can receive.

The Lantern Award recognizes emergency departments that demonstrate excellence in patient care. This year, just 126 emergency departments nationwide received this distinction.

Receiving this recognition at two St. Joseph's Health hospitals reflects the extraordinary dedication of our emergency care teams who deliver expert emergency care 24 hours a day.

Christmas came a little early at St. Joseph’s Children’s Hospital! Yesterday, members of the New Jersey Honor Legion, joined by Santa and his elves, filled our halls with smiles as they delivered toys to our young patients for Christmas in July.🎄

These thoughtful gifts are more than just toys; they bring comfort, distraction, and moments of joy to children and families spending time in the hospital.

Jim never had a heart attack. That's exactly why his story matters.

Growth means continually investing in the places where our communities receive care.

As we continue to enhance our hospital campuses, we're also looking for ways to create a more sustainable future. Our new solar parking canopies at St. Joseph's Wayne Medical Center help generate renewable energy while providing shaded parking and protection from the elements for patients, visitors, and team members.

Every improvement is made with the same goal in mind: creating a better experience today while building a stronger, healthier tomorrow.

The heat isn't the only concern today. Passaic County is also under an air quality alert due to smoke from Canadian wildfires, creating an added health risk for many people. As high temperatures combine with poor air quality, it's a good day to stay indoors when possible.

Children, older adults, pregnant individuals, and anyone with asthma, COPD, heart disease, or other lung conditions should take extra precautions and avoid prolonged or strenuous outdoor activity.

If you need to be outside:
> Stay hydrated.
> Take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning.
> Consider wearing a well-fitting N95 mask if you have to spend extended time outdoors in smoky conditions.

Stay safe, check on neighbors and loved ones, and remember that even healthy individuals may notice eye irritation, coughing, or shortness of breath when air quality is poor.
