Our CEO Kevin recently spent the day with Andrew, a clinical nurse coordinator who works in with patients in our alcohol and chemical treatment (ACT) program.

"I spent a few hours walking in Drew's world and admiring how he treats our detox patients," said Kevin. "I was impressed with his ideas for how we can improve communication between administration and our bedside caregivers."

The ACT at Mountain View Hospital is a short-term comprehensive substance abuse detoxification program which addresses the physical, emotional, and psychological needs of adults ages 18 to 55. Ready or not... Most K-12 students across our state have returned to the classroom. 🎒📚🚌

Although it can be an exciting time, it's important to remember that back-to-school season can also trigger stress and anxiety in children. As they continue to adjust to a new normal—whether that's a new or different school, teacher or schedule—it can also be a good time to reset screen time expectations to benefit kids' mental health.

Su***de remains a leading cause of death among young Utahns, ages 10-17.

Dr. Allison Peet, a psychiatrist and the Medical Director over the Behavioral Health Unit (BHU) at MountainStar Healthcare's St. Mark's Hospital, recently joined Kelly Chapman & John Franchi for Good Day Utah on FOX 13 News to talk about screen time guidance for kids and how it may be affecting their mental health.

Back-To-School Screen Time Recommendations:
🟠 Create predictable screen-free moments.
🟠 Learn about and use parental controls.
🟠 Avoid using screens as pacifiers or babysitters.
🟠 Replace screens with something positive.
🟠 Remove screens from rooms 30-60 minutes before bed.
🟠 Parents should model good screen time habits.

Talk to your children about their use of screens and frankly, their mental health. If you or someone you know is in crisis or thinking about self-harm or su***de, call or text 988 to reach the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline.

Please join us in congratulating Justine, our most recent DAISY Award winner! 🌼 Justine, a clinical nurse coordinator on our Cath Lab team, was nominated for speaking up when it mattered most.

When a patient’s condition raised concerns, Justine trusted her clinical judgment and took action. Her quick thinking caught that the patient was experiencing a serious cardiac event and needed immediate intervention in the cath lab.

The nomination said: "She truly went above and beyond and helped this patient get the care he needed. Justine was an integral part of his care. She truly deserves this DAISY award!"

Sepsis can happen when the body has an extreme response to an infection. It can become life-threatening quickly, so knowing the warning signs matters.

In this video, Dr. Sydney Hester, an infectious disease doctor with our broader HCA Healthcare network, shares what to watch for and when to get emergency care.

At HCA Healthcare, our Sepsis Prediction and Optimization of Therapy (SPOT) system continuously monitors vital signs, lab results, nursing reports and other data to detect often subtle changes in a patient's condition and alert clinicians to signs of sepsis so they can take appropriate action.

If you or someone you love may be experiencing signs of sepsis, don't wait. Call 911 or go to your nearest emergency room: https://bit.ly/4hFBPWf

HCA Mountain Division's VP of Marketing Brad recently spent the day with Sheila, a charge nurse in our behavioral health care department! Our behavioral health services include inpatient mental health care, as well as alcohol and chemical treatment.

Brad said, "What struck me most was Sheila’s remarkable empathy and attentiveness to every patient she encountered. Her compassion created genuine connections with patients—reminding me that, at its core, caregiving is about seeing people, listening to them and making them feel cared for. I left deeply impressed by Sheila and her team, and with an even greater appreciation for the vital role our Behavioral Health Unit plays in the success of our hospital. The work they do is incredibly important, and the difference they make in the lives of our patients is profound.”👏

The goal of the “Walk in Your World" program is to help leaders across HCA Healthcare and MountainStar Healthcare gain a better understanding of where leadership can partner with hospital colleagues to identify best practices, streamline workflows, and create efficiencies that give our people more time at the bedside.
