MYTH: Individuals with disabilities cannot lead or advocate for others.

Reality: Meet Sara.

Sara enjoys going to the movies, participating in arts & crafts, and spending time with friends — but she’s also a dedicated advocate and leader within the KenCCID community.

Today, Sara serves as the President of the KenCCID Advisory Board, where she helps ensure the wishes, goals, and voices of individuals are heard and represented by both the board and our supporters.

With the right support, opportunities, and encouragement, individuals with disabilities can become leaders, advocates, mentors, and changemakers within their communities.

Meet Marlene

Before finding the right opportunities for engagement and connection, Marlene had fewer ways to participate in activities she truly enjoyed.

Today, her journey looks very different.

With KenCCID’s person-centered support, Marlene enjoys visiting Hobby Lobby, participating in arts & crafts, attending community events, and spending meaningful time socializing with others. These experiences help keep her active, connected, and engaged in the world around her.

Direct Support Professionals Are the Real MVPs

Vivian Dalieh, KenCCID’s 2025 DSP of the Year, is being recognized in PAR’s May 2026 DSP Spotlight for her extraordinary dedication and vigilance.

After finishing an overnight shift, Vivian sensed something wasn’t right during a phone call involving one of the homes she supports. Trusting her instincts, she returned to the site and discovered individuals without proper staff coverage.

Without hesitation, Vivian stepped in — staying through the entire day shift to ensure every individual remained safe, supported, and cared for until coverage was secured.

Her actions reflected KenCCID’s I.C.A.R.E. values:
