Native American / Indigenous Heritage Month

This year’s theme, 250 Years and Beyond: Building a culture of service in Indian Country, highlights our shared work to recognize our past, celebrate the present, and deliver results for tribal communities. This includes important efforts to secure justice for missing and murdered Indigenous people, creating new avenues of economic development, and drastically improving the probate process. You can find more information on these and other accomplishments at www.bia.gov/promiseskept.gov

The investments made in Indian Country are making a meaningful difference in Native peoples’ lives. We know tribes can succeed when they have resources needed in partnership with the Federal government.

October is ADHD Awareness Month.

ADHD symptoms start in childhood and often continue into adulthood. The way ADHD impacts daily living may change across a person's lifetime, and needs for support and treatment may differ for adults and children.

ADHD is a brain condition affecting focus, energy, and impulse control, causing ongoing challenges in daily life.

ADHD increases addiction risk due to impulsivity, low self-control, and mood swings; treatment helps.

ADHD may look like a lack of willpower or an excuse for laziness when it’s not. ADHD is really a problem with the chemical dynamics of the brain. It is not under voluntary control!

In most people having the diagnosis, ADHD is likely to be the result of their genetic make-up (i.e. their DNA) and events that happen to them throughout life. Together, these may cause slight differences in the development of the brain, as we see them in people with ADHD.

We encourage the ADHD community to increase awareness and understanding by sharing ADHD information and supports with all who could benefit.
